What if NS is voluntary?

flashed across my mind when I was reading some NS-related articles about deserters, avoiding NS..etc
so what if NS is voluntary
would you guys still opt to undergo NS?
if so why??
patrotic, wanting to earn respect..etc

i'll only go if my friends are silly enough to jio me go together, else a 3-wks basic training stint is the max

Only pro government pple will go , why because saf ony pay you such a meagre sum of salary in return for such a long time and effort to train to protect the mass of foreign talent who is on our soil snatching our jobs and earning top dollars .

Anyway, i believe that whether one is pro/anti govt, only one thing can affect his decision : Is this country worth defending? -

If i remember correctly, some brigade or company or battalion ever had a revolt in the past. They were swiftly clamped down though. I can't remember the details but i do remember such an incident.
Besides, trying to get 10,000 people to agree on doing something radical, is almost near impossible. Unless you have some magical powers, like Jedi mind trick ...

if they pay for my university like how most professional armies do for volunteers, sure why not? i'd probably not serve if it was voluntary but if there was a war i'd probably volunteer

Perhaps. Then all the male will have nothing in common to talk about other than football. And the rich will be bragging abt their so and so toys, blah blah blah. At the very least NS brought everyone to the same level.

realistically speaking, who would want to volunteer themselves whereby one must stay in on weekdays, do guard duties and get a miserable allowance?

If I'd answered this question before doing NS, it would have been no. After NS, it would be yes.
It's got absolutely nothing to do with whether the country or the government is worth serving - those here who know me know that I've left and shaken the dust off my feet.
My reason's a lot more simple than that. Being the baddest thing in sight was a heady experience for a nineteen-year-old, especially for one who hadn't done much of note up till then. It's set the path for the past 16 years, and it's kept any challenge from getting the better of me during all that time. Hell, if I had to do it all over again, country notwithstanding, I honestly don't know how hard I'd fight it. -

Thinking back, NS was fun and also help me become more independant, but the process real shiiiit man. -
