Warrant Officer

for the record, i don't salute officers. they will only get "sir" from me because i don't know their names.
i call my unit warrant officers "lao lang" when i see them.
everyone else i don't usually greet. -
but since SWO, MWO holds Officer appointments, so should a WO greet or salute a Junior officer eg 1st lit or 2nd -

but from wat i c so far, it's like there's a mutual understanding.
When a MWO n 2LT meet...
the 2LT will greet the MWO 1st by saying "gd morning encik!"
then the MWO will greet back BUT most of the time, nv salute.
then in another case such as the BMTC Taurus case,
as the MWO is the OC, the 2LTs r the PCs
it's direct superior n subordinate relationship so i dun c the need for the OC to salute the PC.
imagine in the morning when whole coy fall in including the recruits..
then the OC walk pass n salute the PC, very weird leh.
anyway, the OC oso nv salute lah...
but sometimes... i wonder how warrant officers feel when they have to salute those young 19 - 20 yrs old 2LT when they themselves r 30 - 40+ yrs old. -

last time in my unit, there was this Tech OC. He was a Lta, but his age was 35.
He told us he was a 1WO in the past, due to his outstanding performance, he was pushed to OCS becos they need a OC.
So he went in OCS at age 34, went thru the whole 9 mths.
Everytime PT lessons, he was the last. However, all the instructors there knew abt him so no punishment was given to him. -

from my view...
salutes r observed only during parades. when in camp, as in the above posts had indicated. nowadays, pple in SAF work as in ISO organisation. See appointment 1st, then see rank. unless u have those cannot-lose-face WOs, then diff stories. otherwise, the traditional mutually-respect-seniors attitude still in practice. -

1SGs that earned my respect..
master sergeants and staff sergeants...even if i like them or not..
major and above....cmmon leh....crabs can snip snip with its claws leh
warrants...even then i greet them as encik...being called an encik makes them feel younger somehow...

Got any sergeants or occifers that u don't like? Very easy... when ur unit ATP is round the corner, go up to him.
"Sir/Sgt, I... would like.. to find out from you, err... which ddday you will be going for ur ATP?" While looking at him, and twitching ur trigger finger as if without control. It helps to mess up ur hair a little too! -

It's a thing about Rank and Appointments
Rank, there is a hierarchy. Officer ranks are commissioned. So Non-coms have to respect officers on the basis that they are commissioned.
Appointments, it's a duty. Those who holds that appointment is SUPREME in the scope of the appointment.
You don't expect a PC to Order his RSM to allow his platoon to have long hair. But RSM still salutes that PC. -
yah lor, bear in mind that officers retire at 45yrs old leh...and WOSEs retire at 55yrs old. It's all about appointments...whether WOs get promoted to officer rank is not their immediate division's HQ but MINDEF...Also, there also must be a quota and ethic issues.. If for eg, the division/school/Insitute SM is a MWO, a SWO appointment would be replaced to a LTA appointment..

he is married wif 2 kids.......he said in the first 2 mths he cried almost every nite......cos so old still need to chiong, n stand by, kids missed him n so on.....somemore when he commissioned, he took a pay cut.
1WO convert to LTA...all his past working yrs gone.
but he said he loved the army too much, so he's not affected by it.
