he is married wif 2 kids.......he said in the first 2 mths he cried almost every nite......cos so old still need to chiong, n stand by, kids missed him n so on.....somemore when he commissioned, he took a pay cut.
1WO convert to LTA...all his past working yrs gone.
but he said he loved the army too much, so he's not affected by it.

Those who wished to convert do so in their 2SGs, 1SGs's time, ard 25-28 yrs old. Those who reached WO status, about 32 and above, have to consider their family, parents, wife, children, house, car, etc...so its not worthwhile for them to do that.

They oughta allow Warrant Officers above a certain rank to be commissioned without taking a pay cut. Maybe they wont' get a pay increment until the next rank increment that surpasses his original pay?
That way, they can retain / if not gain, more experience for the officer corps from more Warrant Officer cross overs. -

To me I will try to salute any officer I see provided they specifically mentioned to dispense with formalities.
Reason being the amount of shit they went through in OCS to get their commission deserves recognition and respect already. Some may argue that not-so-good officers dont deserve to be respected but i think if you still respect them for their ranks despite knowing so, then I think you deserve their respect too.
I think for WOs that convert to be officers deserve even more respect, for willing to take a pay cut. And the suggestion to not cut their salaries seem good. Afterall its the experience that counts and they still do roughly the same jobs for Junior Officers and WOs. -

If you reach 1WO rank, then you can work until 50 years old.
If 1WO convert to officer, mostly CPT or MAJ, got to retire at 42 years old. -

Sounds as if roles and responsibilities have become a little confused in the Singapore Armed Forces.
The British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Marines have just two WO ranks: WO2 and WO1 (the senior of the two). The RAF has just one WO (also known as Master Aircrew for aircrew). There's never any confusion about who salutes whom - WOs always salute officers.
On a related point a couple of your SWOs recently attended the Joint Services Warrant Officers Course here in the UK at the Joint Services Command and Staff College.
