NS general enquiry

Hello people.i have a simple question and i hope that you may be able to enlighten me on as it has been causing me some unrest.
I currently finished my first year in poly and i am 19 this august.I live with my mother alone as my dad passed away in late 2004.My mom does not know english and does not work and is 55 years old.I have no relatives in Singapore at all and live with my mom alone.I am the only son,no other siblings.
As a result of NS coming up in 2009,i am worried about my mother's well being as she her blood pressure rises at times.I am worried that who is going to look after her when i am away for BMT,is there a possibility that MINDEF can excuse me from BMT and offer me a 8-5 job or have me able to go home every night once i start? I hope someone can tell me on what can be done and what has happened in similar cases.

You definitely have to serve NS... However , they will look in to case by case basis... Speak to the officer durign checkup or vocational assesment... Who know you get exempted from NS....

u will definitely have to serve your BMT in tekong. u cannot book out other than on weekends.
at most they will post u to a stay out unit after BMT if u give this up to the relevant parties. -
i am afraid ur possibilities are close to zero

like others say, highlight ur prob to ur higher commanders. might recommend u to post to a stay out vocation, 8-5 type. but even so, be prepared for some night duties per month.
