Does anyone knows if Major-General (MG) or Lieutenant-General (LG) is higher? and is BG the highest?
searched thru the mindef website and got this:
General Level Ranks
The people with the highest ranks in the Army are known as the Generals. The stars on their epaulettes reflect the enormous responsibilities on their shoulders. They are responsible for the planning of policies which affect the entire Army, including Command of Divisions. Presently, the three levels of generalship are : Brigadier-General (BG), Major-General (MG) and Lieutenant-General (LG). -
Lieutenant-General is 3 star.......(Is the biggest in our military)

doing a sch project with some references to the army, so nd some info on the ranking system
so just to re-cap:
Lieutenant-General (LG)--- 3star (highest)
Major-General (MG)--- 2star
Brigadier-General (BG)--- 1star
correct?
i always tod Lieutenant-General is the lowest ranking general since Lieutenant seems to denote a junior-ranking officer, like
Lieutenant is the lowest ranking officer, LTC-COL is one rank below colonel etc.. -

There have been quite a few 5-star Generals and other equivalents.
The US had 5-star generals created in order to make them equivalent to the British Field-Marshals. The armed forces of many WW2 countries also had field-marshals/ Marshals. 5 stars (O-11) in the US became General of the Army, General of the Airforce and Admiral of the Navy. -

For those that went through in Tekong before, if you have attended the lectures you will know that there's indeed a 4 star general in SAF only that no one is holding that rank.
I have heard before that the reason of why SAF is without a 4 star general is the same as why a service chief and CDF cannot be holding for his terms for too long -- for fear of a coup. Even the longest serving CDF -- Winston Choo, retired as a LG.
Another saying is that SAF is not big enough to have a 4 star general (although some may think that in SAF a CDF should be a GEN while a COA, CNV and CAF should be a LG) -

in sg ... the rank structure stops at 3 star gen (LG) ... to achieve a 4star general status .. u have to participate in a war of any kind ..... ww2 .... gulf war .. iraq war etc etc .....
