No such things. Different countries have different requirements on who can be general.Originally posted by hao_hao:in sg ... the rank structure stops at 3 star gen (LG) ... to achieve a 4star general status .. u have to participate in a war of any kind ..... ww2 .... gulf war .. iraq war etc etc .....
Mr Teo no more use RADM ar?Originally posted by KoolKool:I think PM and Minister for Defence have exceeded their NS liability age of 50. That is why they no longer use BG(NS) and RADM (NS). If they want to use, it got to be BG(RETD) and RADM(RET). But no need ..............
Originally posted by Short Ninja:Colin Powell was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, he never rose to 5 star since the Pentagon curbed the award of such ranks for some time already and the British also did away with the Field Marshals.

there is no rank of Admiral (3 star) but Vice Admiral which is a three star rank.Originally posted by mhcampboy:smaller.
Rear Admiral got (1 star) and (2 star).
After that is Admiral(3star)
LG 3 star.
oh sorry sorry... Vice Admiral...Originally posted by sir sickolot II:there is no rank of Admiral (3 star) but Vice Admiral which is a three star rank.
So if the CNV ever becomes CDF, he will be promoted to 3 stars, and assume the rank of Vice Admiral.
imagine if the CDF is also a PhD holder...haha.. LG (Dr) XXX
most generals have masters so yea... not an impossible task to get a PhD
in fact, there are some COL and LTC who have PhDs... some of them are in the psychology branch of the army.
cheers
wow very informative... thanxOriginally posted by nightzip:yup, LG is in lieu for General, as in LT-Col, is in lieu for Colonel.
Anyway, think the max. rank a country has depends on the army size.
If the army size is superlarge, as in WWII, where
army => army group ==> army section ===> army platoon
(3-star) (requires abt 50k soldiers in all formations) ==> (4-star) (requires 250k soldiers in all formations - in peace time, able to be activated and operational) ===> (5-star) (requires almost 1MILLION soliders) !!!
5-6 stars are possible, when let's say there's an allied force, and there is one supreme commander to the allied forces of let's say 5-6 countries's soldiers put together....seldom though..
Jiang jun = marshalOriginally posted by Prince Cumming:wow very informative... thanx
so does LG which means in lieu for general means it's not considered a full general ... that means SAF does not have a real general? sorry, gettin abit condused..
side-track abit... general is the equivalent of Jiang jun in chines. Then wat about Yuan shuai (as seen in period dramas)... what's their equivalent in modern day ?
5 stars is the limit.Singapore is the only country to have SM and MM but will never have a 5 star General unless the MM also want to be a super star.Originally posted by nightzip:yup, LG is in lieu for General, as in LT-Col, is in lieu for Colonel.
