Ok I was wrong in counting the stars.General Colin Powell only had 4 stars,sorry -lah.In US histroy there were only 4 Army 5 star Generals,4 Navy 5 star Generals and only one Air Force 5 star General. -
i've always thought it ridiculous for such men to be promoted to the general ranks when saf has never been in the heat of fire. its like.... promoting a primary school teacher to a university professor

SAF is an organisation, a military one... so there has to be some form of hirachy.
In fact, SAF do attach some senior officers to UN peace keeping missions to have a good insight on 'real time ops' although it not high intensity or anything. -
but most of these SAF "generals" are really in some way look good on papers only rite... most of them are president scholars or academics frm prestigious uni . But in terms of real warfare experience? can they hold against those frm other countries, particularly those frm say vietnam or thailand, which may lack behind us in terms of technology or book knowledge but are constantly engaged in real war-like scenario...

1. Send our soldiers to fight in some foreign war eg. Birtish soldiers fighting in Iraq, and have the press and the whole country say "Send our men to die for what?"

You think got any real way to "get experience" meh. Even in working life you need a first time job to get a taste of how things are done. It is never like textbook one lah. My opinion is that Singapore army is only to "hold the fort" until United Nations/ASEAN/whatever come in to save us You think we can fight prolonged war? -

Within the region yes, we can hold our own.
If you say that our soldiers are weak, as they have not had any true combat experience, then the same can be said with most of the armies in the world.
Do you think that the world is consistently in a state of war? I'm thankful that we are not.
Similarly, M'sia and Indon troops have similar limited combat experience, not too different from S'pore.
I can't speak for certain for M'sian troops, but Indon troops are really quite behind in terms of equipment. -
