i heard from my NSF friends that there will be no more joint exercise and exchange programme with the thailand military anymore. How true is that?

Thailand can afford this because their military budget for this year increase by -alot- *hint* why ah? Oh wait look who's in charge....
For us why bother to keep giving them so much money when they bite our backside? Bring our money else where lor. No more sawadeekap , look forward to more hot-sandy-dusty training areas and i dont mean swbta. -

i thought SAF has already look at india and Australia for their training Program. Old program such as starlight and cresendo may not fit the model.

My unit is supposed to have a joint-ex with Thailand over there, mid this year.
No change in status as yet.
The Thai military, in general has always been quite close to the SAF. If recent reports by both governments are to be believed, then our military ties are "unaffected". -
I had fond memories of Crescendo there.

Now Thailand economy being screwedup -
the country got very little money left
The Generals themselves are in a state of chaos -
so how are they able to concentrate on having joint military exercises
Each one of them is looking after his own interests first
where got time to think about having war games
Maybe working very hard to find strategies to swallow up Temasek's properties there
Don't have to depend on Thailand to have military exercise
Other countries are more willing -
India provides a different terrain for training, especially in desert conditions.
Australia's SWBTA is tropical grassland in nature, New Zealand has mountainous terrain.
Not to mention 29 Palms in California. -
Usually, Chiefs are conferred the highest military honours from countries which we have defence co-operations with. Let's see if Thailand will confer a medal to our Chief, and if Singapore will confer a medal to theirs, in the near future. I am not even sure if the Chiefs might even exchange a visit. Some of these medals handed out to visiting defence chiefs can be found
selling in open Thieves markets in various Asian countries.
When their military careers come to an end after a long distinguished career, the medals had also lost its value. Some of these people auction off their medals to raise money to buy their daily foodstuffs.
In any case, conferring medals is an outward gesture seen as sweetening the mouth of a visiting chief. -

Look at the other side of the coin - the Thais probably think we are ungrateful lot of people. Don't always think that because you pay, so someone else must serve and give. Think that because we needed something, therefore the other party let us have it in return for some monetary gains. -
Our love hate relationship with Thailand hmm......
I am not so sure thailand will always made the prudent decision in regards to regional stabilities. look at history...WWII. and early history of Singapore.
