what kind of a vehicle is that? is it kinda similar to a 1.5 ton (MB290)? what are the purposes of it?

All I know, tis veh brake not so effective when go down hill. Wide of tis veh almost as wide as HUMVEE. Only good for the driver, the seating so good u can sleep on it

Before SAF purchase MB290, UNIMOG was used for Signals, Motar Platoon etc.

Ｕnimog also used for HQ command post. You can set up tentage on both left and right sides of the Unimog. During my time, S2 and S3 will share one Unimog Cmd Post.S1 and S4 will share another.

Correction here. Unimog is the unofficaL WORKHORSE of the Army in turns of recovery duties and reliability together with the WRECKER MB 2636. Class classification of the unimog is class 3 and not 4 as some of you guys mentioned. The unimog other than being deployed as trunk vehicles in the Sig formation, it is also extensively used by the MES formation as a very importatnt maintenance asset, designated as LMTV(light maintenance tasked vehcle). The LMTV is specially designed by MES, manufactured by WONG FONG for the ops maintenance tasking of supporting B vehicle ops.
Final note. the unimog DO NOT Share the same chasis as the MB 290 GD. They are worlds apart in terms of loading, dynamic and static stress point. Also, the unimog utilises a fully imersed propellor shaft wherelse the MB 290GD utilises a three pirce propellr shaft.

recently watched a docu on discovery channel; the germans have a commercial version of the UNIMOG, which could be used on tarmac and train tracks; pulling an impressive load along!
