it still stands that moonlighting is not allowed while serving full time national serviceOriginally posted by Gordonator:working part time is alright as long as it doesn't conflict with your NS duties.

SAF provide food, lodging and security. How not to survive?Originally posted by Mid9Sun:Well during my time..we all give tuitions ..if not cannot surive on the miserable 200 bucks a month
but sometimes if u've got parents to support, or a new family to raise you have to push back the sian-ness.Originally posted by RvnRooRon84:Your friend stay-in vocation?
Its a wonder how some can don't mind working weekends after staying-in for 5 days..I mean its going be very sian, tiring and all..
Goes to show either he has very strong will and hardworking..
Or NS getting very relaxed and no-stress..
Or in the first place he not in stay-in vocation la of course..
I've come across cases where it's the family that is suffering. There are really terrible cases that one may not hear about everyday, and not in the news for sure. Single parent families, siblings all drug addicts, parent mentally challenged.. the only breadwinner having to serve NS etc..Originally posted by Parka:SAF provide food, lodging and security. I'll be blunt. He should just change his lifestyle if he cannot afford it. All those are not needs, they are wants.Originally posted by gnoik:my fren a heavy spender- eats good food, clubbing n buy branded shirts etc.
He a 3SG now, stay in but sure can book out by fri nite.
Work on wkends can give him more spending power cos he say army pay not enough for him..
Yeap, it's his call. If he doesn't skip his weekend duties, if any, and does his work well, there's no need for his superiors to do anything.Originally posted by sir sickolot II:i totally agree. why work on weekends just to splurge on such a decadant lifestyle? If you work to support your family it's something. But to buy the latest fred perry tee, for instance? that's something else.
But yes, you choose the way you wanna lead your life.
cheers

it is difficult to draw the line. so if there is dire need, of course one can make the application.Originally posted by sir sickolot II:it still stands that moonlighting is not allowed while serving full time national service
but i feel some leeway can be given to those who really have genuine concerns about supporting a family and what not while serving NS.
a soldier cannot fully perform his duties as a soldier if he has dosmestic problems to deal with.
Although the SAF have many welfare schemes on hand, I'm not too sure if this can fully cover what is required.
why cannot? before NS when i was schooling, my mum give me $200 for monthly allowance. i can survive on it.Originally posted by Mid9Sun:Well during my time..we all give tuitions ..if not cannot surive on the miserable 200 bucks a month
and in the army food is free...Originally posted by Gordonator:why cannot? before NS when i was schooling, my mum give me $200 for monthly allowance. i can survive on it.
