Look a commando knife is design so that is can be thrown with more accurate and the blade will fly forward instead ! I sliced my finger on my bayonet before. Many people think that because it is blunt, it is not effective. But i can say that with enough strength, it can slice through skin.
And the thing is, unlike normal kitchen or butter knife, our bayonet is a thick blade. Which means that it slices through skin THICKLY.

I would prefer to come up close and use the knife on the person rathr than throw it at him anyday too. A knife is a close in weapon, a last resort if you lose all weapons capable of extended reach (spear, bow, arrow, bullet).. If you throw the stupid knife, you have nothing left but your bare hands.. and assuming you hit.
Note: Most knife throwing is done sideways-the blade flys sideways, not forwards. You grip the knife by the blade and throw it. Not by the handle. Throwing the knife by the handle is much more difficult.[b] -

Yeah, I was just mucking around with the camera. Lemme get a proper dusting cloth and take some better shots later.
As I mentioned before, it's primarily a stabbing weapon, and the shape of the blade makes that clear - the angle of the edges is such that they offer minimal resistance when the blade is being pushed through someone you don't like. -
I dun think any SF guys would throw their stilletos, bayonets, parang...
For one, they're discarding a perfectly good tool and weapon and two, there is no garauntee they'll even injure the target. The weapon is probably more affective staying in their hands than leaving it. -

I'll be building my own display case for the beret and stiletto some time in the coming months.
And give a guy a break, will ya? I'm still trying to get the hang of my 400D, and the colour balance isn't right. The background was supposed to be almost pure white!

guard_01, this is how I switch my knife instantly. I took a series of shots for you. This whole switching should take about 1/30-1/15 sec. If you're a beginner aim for 1 sec.
Take note that YOU HAVE TO BE FAST (1 sec max) or the knife will not maintain momentum and you will end up dropping it. Also, if the knife drops, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CATCH IT. Also, don't trythis on a knife with a serrated blade until you are familiar.
I have seen people try to catch a falling knife.
Common sense doesn't appear to be relevant to certain people.

the blade is more than 9 cm, under 10 cm,
the whole length of the knife is 19. something.
it comes with a shealth and it's for cutting fruits...
(i actually mean to buy the 4.90 knife, but it's out of my budget, and it's not really consealable without a shealth.) the 4.90 knife is much longer, but it does not have a proper shealth. the $1 one has -

I'm not dissing your handiwork with a blade but I figured that a standoff prior to a possible knife fight is not the best place to switch blades, for the precisely reason you mentioned above (i.e. the possibility of the blade dropping).
One solution is to arm yourself with a different blade on each hand and spend time practising with the thrust and parry strokes till they become almost second nature.
Or go full auto....

2. Some areas like bones are near impossible to break with a thrust, and only a stab will work. And anyway, switching of the knife is so fast you'll probably not even notice it.
3. I switch the knife postion while in the middle of a fight, not prior to it. Prior to the fight you can hold the knife whichever way you want mah. (I don't really understand this sentence)
4. Quite unlikely for a person with experience with knives (In my post, I was referring to guard_01 who said he was practicing, was advising him to be careful)

This whole post was about combat knife fighting.. (I.e. wartime, and you lose your gun) You don't carry TWO knives around right
If you talking about Kung Fu I don't know, I have no authority to comment. I am not a martial arts artist. I only use Jeet Kune Do. and I don't consider Jeet Kune Do a martial art. So... about flowery two handed knife fighting... You have to go to martial arts forum, I know nuts.
I only use what is the most effective for ME, what is most effective for me may not be most effective for you. -
