Gas! Gas! Gas! ![]()
The CBRE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Explosive) Defence Group was formed to enhance the SAF's counter-terrorist capabilities to address this multi-faceted threat.
39 SCE, which is the Chemical and Biological Defence Unit. It decontaminates incident sites that contain chemical or biological hazards and provides a sustained, multi-incident response capability. 39 SCE works with the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) in the event of a chemical attack.
CBRE pioneer are usually in PT kit with Boots. There's a $200 Risk Allowance i think. No SOC i think, but they have their own obstacle course to clear. Field camp wise, not alot. But this Unit is everready. It'll be a fun experience for you but prepare to sacrifice alot of weekends.
But hey, this is one of the few Army Unit that actually operate mostly in civilian sector rather than the jungle. ![]()

why did they have to send me for a medical check up first/?
Haha, every time BMT POP results come out, Stellazio would be answering questions from new AOS trainees. Let me contribute this time round. :)
Training
Air Operations Specialist (AOS) is the NSF version of the ASOX. We would undergo a 5 to 8 weeks stay-in Basic AOSX/AOS course (though i heard due to space crunch at AFTC, some would stay out) at AFTC, C3 school. Don't worry, the instructors there are world class, pass rates of the course is 100%.
After that we would be posted to either aircraft SQNs, Tower/BCPs, SImulators Training Centres or HQs as Ops Specialist.
This is a stay-out vocation. but the working hours at fighter SQNs and Tower/BCPs can be long and graveyard. Expect heavy responsibilites and get caught in some office politics. Those posted to be HQs and Simulators would be luckier with fixed working hours.
Promotion (assuming passed IPPT if not medically excused)
Skill/Vocation Badge

Currently only the regulars get to don the AOSX vocation badge. The NSFs currently wear only an empty No.3 unform and sometimes get mistaken for a clerk. ;( There is ongoing rumour that this is going to change as part of a RSAF uniform revision exercise. (whether will it be the same cool badge on the left or a newly designed one, is yet to be confirmed)
Conclusion
A NSF vocation as an AOS can be challenging and rewarding. Sometimes, you may even get to go overseas as part of a RSAF exercise/deployment. You would also get to see behind and appreciate the immense resource and secret-edge techonolgy our world class airforce employ. You will also get to befriend and personally know the pilots/WSOs behind our planes. Or would you see the dark hidden side of the RSAF? To all AOS trainees, all the best as you embark on this tiring but exciting journey! :)
nice post from IMWARREN.
new batch of AOS have it good, now the promotion rates are much faster, during my time it was 3 months before ord and a 1 month intermediate course to get 3sg and before that we had to go through the lcp,cpl stage.. but it was heaven considering how slack AFS is especially when you're no longer a trainee.
but yeah the downside is the lack of recognition through the badge, so often you're mistaken for a clerk..anyway the rumour of the new badge has existed for years and till now nothing has been done, so i don't expect anything to change..
anyway the stay in course for the basic training is only 5 weeks for squadron and simulator personnels, and 8 weeks for bcp/tower crew..

erm yeah they only changed it last year..
and yeah the promotion timeline sure was slow..
err normally AOS dont really get called back for reservist, but if they do its rather slack kind.. not manning ops but just helping out with the sai gang etc..
are u still serving ur ns?
yeah, still serving... ORD early 2011
if your name is as what your nick suggests, i think i know you..
hmmm... do i happen to know you personally, stellazio?
