Which country will mount a mission and risks the lives of her own soldiers for another country with no obvious benefits? And Isreal is really manpower short in a region where there are so many enemies against it, not to mention the domestic terrorism it faces. -

Any Israeli incursion will become a huge problem. That's why we will never use their troops, I feel. However, their intel is another issue altogether. -

And an insult to the martial tradition of not leaving your boys behind.
Anyway, we're not talking of black ops chaps being caught behind enemy lines, but rather if our navy boys doing coalition work last year, were caught in a similar situation. -

a simple break down of commencing search ops. layman term. command ship, back up ship, secure ship all in place. dead sure target not arm. dispatch SOF/NDU. nothing found, go back ship. fire fight on the search ship, R.O.E. shoot to kill. if member get caught? what do you think the "ship" "boat" will be going if 3 other of us are waiting not forgetting we have "cannons."
R.O.E. for SAF had clearly state what to do for our guys on the ground. (for each OPS) repeat again, SAF do not go in on small number unless dead sure, target not arm, even so, still go in with overwhelming numbers.

GOV do not have the answer to why a man "son" died because they the GOV send him there. -
I do have a question however, the craft which the Brits were launched from, where was it? And also, aren't they supposed to be in constant contact with the mother ship? Lastly, when found that they have been surrounded, why no QRF were sent to back them up?

The Marines were from the HMS Cromwell, a destroyer, how is it that they didn't respond? They have helicopters on the darn ship.
And if the Iranians were in Iraqi waters, why didn't the Marines attempt to escape (granted we don't ahve all the info of what happened) and open fire when fired upon.
This would tell all smugglers, "hey, the Marines won't fire when threated, so if they try to board us, we'll just threaten them!"
Again, granted we don't have all the facts, but it does seem to raise some interesting questions. -

The BBC had an embedded reporter on the HMS Cornwall, and the staff of the warship, especially the Commodore, all believed that it would be prudent to wait. The Marines set out in RHIBs, and I believe, in a squadron of 3 RHIBs. What is unknown is the distance that the Cornwall was from the site of arrest, and granted that 15 Marines in RHIBs, only armed with boarding weapons and light arms, could not necessarily resist against the Iranian patrol boats without getting injured.
Next, the US Navy theatre commander commended the RN for her patience and for her sailors' calmness to avoid a firefight. Now, it puts Iran in an interesting position, given that the RN and the USN have not saberrattled, which is a rare thing in itself. If Iran does more harm to the sailors right now, there would be less public opinion swaying against any harsh measures that the UK or USA might make further on. -
You may have some point there, but the number of rated personnel available for boarding and inspection is always fixed, because the assets in theatre are finite. mission just to deter sabotage. no unnecessarily action. once warning given to that ship to stop for on board search and it did not did so. our guys will not be dispatch. fire order will be given next.
all i can say is that, that 15 guys is on "some other mission." if it just a norm search, nothing like this will happen? dun forget of the command ship and back up + air space control under who? is that ship just going to get away with the 15 guys? letting them have the 15 guys do nothing good for the UN oni when they go in on their own. ie some recce mission. -

The LST would not be able to response to the overwhelming ship that was encounter. -
