even SAF sends their men to SCDF to learn fire-fighting. and during NDP, RSMs and MPs work with FIs to train the contingents in their drill. why cannot learn anything from each other?

don't assume you need to serve NS before learning about superficial stuff like drills, ranks & hierarchy, military units, Colours, parades and ceremonies. all these sort of stuff can be found on the Internet. there's a wonderful Geocities page which researches on the origins and the significance of Colours!

Whatever it is, Hormat Panglima is only for generals. Not MP or above.

I think the command is a direct translation from English, "general salute, present arms". The general does not mean the rank general, it means "ordinary, usual".

Hormat Panglima is given to CDF, service chiefs, and generals. Basically, all general grade officers. The band-in-attendance strikes the tune Salute No. 4, 5, or 6 respectively.
Hormat Menteri is given to ministers. The band-in-attendance strikes the tune Salute No. 3.
Hormat Perdana Menteri is given to the Prime Minister. The band-in-attendance strikes the tune Salute No. 2
Hormat President to the president. The band-in-attendance strikes the National Anthem, or if on second execution after an inspection, Salute No. 1.
