for extremely high danger, high respect vocation, all the while being relevant in today's threats of LIC, with real world operations 24/7 365, the EOD vocationalist is the one u r looking for.
it is in the CBRE Defense Group, 36 SCE Explosive Ordnance Disposal, 39 SCE Chemical Biological Radiological Defense.
btw, SCDF's HAZMAT has 39's capability, and personally, i prefer SCDF.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal, the only unit in Singapore that is able to render safe Improvised Explosive Devices in Low Intensity Conflict scenarios, and Explosive Ordnances in war time, and many many more things.
its soldiers go through a battery of tough physical and ABSD tests to qualify before going for an interview by the CO. once handpicked, they go through tough training continually, mentally and physically, to earn their Advanced EOD Badge. after the training course, training does not stop at all. EOD operators will be continually trained when they r free so that they r always highly competent and confident with the equipments, many of which are very very expensive. in addition to many other highly classified things in the EOD line of work.
because when crap hits the fan, operators need to work on things immediately, without neglecting any details. not a second is to be wasted. there is no time for indecision, troubleshooting of machine... or worse, gross incompetence that would threaten the national security of Singapore.
only the cream of the crop, who are willing to expose themselves to real danger either in training or during operations will be taken by the unit.
i dare say that the EOD vocationalists are the most professional in the Engineer formation, if not the whole Army. less the SOF/CDO coz they are "up there".
EOD operators perform their extremely high risk tasks in real world scenarios very frequently and deliver high marks at any time of the day, everytime.
any mistake and u make news because there is no margin of error in EOD work.
EOD is not for some joker NSF or Regular to go in n play masak masak.
there is no pointless regimentation, guard duties, prowling, rushing hill, field camps and all that nonsense, or screwing by your superiors because of their mood... for the EOD operators.
everything the operators do and train for, they do for operations' sake.
its the real deal.
