  yup, though SCE is organising committee. it looks as if most other units in the saf beside the SCE are called into lending their support in a way or two. it seems that most nsf units have been 'mobilise' every ndp without fail.
  
  from logistics to marching contigents need pple to top up to medical team to signal comms...etc. the whole 'umbrella' is affected.

  The pic above is not STAR. It's SOC, with their distinctively POLICE word at the back. Star will wear Black uniform, not police blue type. U will also see that their gear are somewad diffrent, like their mask, boots, guns and other personnel equipments

  Can anyone explain the diff between MRT Troop, STAR, SOC, and the skim (I forgot how to spell that weird name... they the ones with blue berets) and their diff roles?

  Well, You'll have to look at their organisationatinal structure then.
  
  MRT Troop is also clasify under SOC. Just that their unit deals only in protection of MRT. STAR is seldom seen and never seen in public except for rare events like terrorist of bank robbery with machine guns and all and during the Police Day Parade. SOC includes the Riot police, Dog unit and Singapore Police Gurkha Contingent, their duty is to support other units in the case of the Dog unit, Quell civilian unrest like the Riot Police and protection of sensitive areas for Gurkhas.
