Whats the purpose for those navy personnel onboard ships

  to wear a white balaclava..why ah? Everytime i see commercials or watch tv can see but never get the chance to ask..is it to prevent dirt particles to their mouth?

  why only the ones facing the radar or equipment wear them..then the XO or CO no need meh? Make them die faster ah?

  from what i know, it's to prevent flash burns. and everbody wears them.

  The white mask is actually called an anti-flash hood. Job is essentially the same as a balaclava, prevents the wearer from getting facial burns in case of a fire. And for your info, I believe COs and XOs do wear them when the vessel is on alert.

  I thought its because the same reason executioners mask their faces. Like ancient times when beheading was in fashion and the beheader wore a hood.

  those who manned the 'A' Gun/'Y' Gun, the .5 Browning Machine Gun(side-gun)

  erm I think SCDF have breathing tank so they'll be wearing a mask which supplies air also.....
  
  FYI, I refrain from using the term oxygen tank.. like many of us do when we describe scuba diving tanks..
  
  but actual fact is .. the tanks dun contain oxygen.. it contains air.. oxygen tank would be something else..
