Sign On: Worth It? Wise? Outside No Good Job Prospect? How?

  If you decide to sign on VERY early like 16.5 years old.What vocations will you be send to and any difference in treatment, so on??

  Assuming sgporean in Sg. No difference treatment, u can be posted anyway but most I come across ends up as infantry.
  
  Main Difference is enlist early can't get into command schools such as OCS or SISPEC. You most likely end up as men, attaining max rank is LCP (sometimes, if good performance, CPL). This is due to education, because atmost must have As and dip to get into command school.
  
  But then again, if sign on, I haben come across any who sign on at 16. Then again, if u are 16, I dun think can make it to command school also. With Os, at most SISPEC, I believe OCS is still out of the picture (Education again).

  Not true that one needs at least A levels or a diploma to become a commander. And the TS asked about signing on. As far as I know, there are no regulars who have the highest attainable rank of LCP. octega must have misread the question?

  i know of WOs now...who signed on at age 16.5... and were PS by age 18/19
  so yes, you can actually go to SISPEC at 16.5 if you're up to the mark... even at this present moment.
  
  There is also a scheme, i believe, for ADF where you sign on for about 4 years as an ADF man... achieve the rank of CPL... and if you're outstanding they will take you into SISPEC.
  
  I knew of a bloke like that from ADF... signed on, be a infantry man... subsequently went on to SISPEC and later PS Course. I mean.. he was quite outstanding. The rare few in BSLC who had JCC, Marksman and IPPT Gold. And CPL rank liao! respects....

  Wikipedia mentioned abt the now-defunct SAF Education Centre whose role was to give boys aged 14-17 who were not academically inclined a career in the military in the 80s'.

  think 10 times if you wanna sign the rifleman scheme. Im regretting now. Almost impossible to get pp1 unless u extend ur rifleman contract by another 4 years.

  not true, NITEC also can.
  
  in fact, i'm sure one can sign on as a spec even with O levels.

  last time my platoon mate wanna sign on commando, but tio reject coz he only sec3 qualification. in the end he go sign on ADF

  now even if u sign on rifleman or specialist with nitec or o levels, u cannot go that far. now saf is "controlling" the regulars numbers. the warrant officers contract is harder to get now... had it that out of 10 ssg/msg who went for the interview, only 2 to 4 r selected to be one.

  i'm not very sure about the statistics, but yes it's now getting a whole lot harder to get the PP2.
  
  And is there any wonder why people don't have this feeling that SAF can give you a life long career.
  
  As for Commandos... they would mainly want people with 'higher level' of education... afterall even the mono intake of cdo men are dip/A level holders.
