You been playing Tom Clancy's Advanced Warfigher II recently?Originally posted by 2010:Hey
I am going for ns in a couple of years and i was wondering what the selection process is to be a commando.
Also what is the training schedule of a commando and where do people drop out?
Please be as detailed as possible.
Thanks you!
2010
PS: can you add the year you were doing the training.
CDOs are known for their pride and honour , i know this coz' one of the PE teachers in my sch was a ex-CDO NS man who told me abt how fiercely the CDOs guard their pride. i feel it's better to go into NS w/o any expectations watsoever, and just dig it in when the going gets tough. at least we'll have one more less disillusioned soldier . although i'm considered very young down here , but i feel tt one shouldn't really place too much hope on something. for example, even u have went for the VA which is quite exclusive to the general population , u must be prepared to know that things may not go ur way( in yr case, not managing to get into hendon camp). so have tt in mind , NS may be a much better place for u and me ... provided everyone do their duties and not shift it to the juniors ... the resentment will grow from thereOriginally posted by boariggy:hey guys,
i went for my VA a while back and after that i was psyching myself for CDOs then now i've received my letter and it's to BMTC.. man i feel kinda disappointed haha.. was looking forward to airborne..
i was thinking if im gonna be a soldier, at least go all the way for the short duration i'll be a NSF.
oh wells..
I was a demo man, I generally bummed about and I had a rep as a prankster.Originally posted by crosshairs:Gedanken, what was your designation, what did you do, and what were you good at?

You could be on to something there. The nature of the job is such that all kinds of things are going to happen, and the only thing to do is shrug it off and carry on with what you were doing. That mentality's certainly helped me in all the work I've done since leaving the army.Originally posted by ouchtthurt:I nv seem to see any commando complain about pride nor politics, at least in this forum.
Could it be due to the fact tt commandos have learned to suck up all the shit?(no offence). Commandos seem to go the extra mile in everything they do too. E.g the 25 rehearsal mention previously.
Hows the organization and situation in Hendon?
I was there 10 years before you 2nd COY also December Intake>CO was Ltc Boon Hon Lin ,OC at that time was Soon Yoo Ker and maybe you know Teo Tiow Ban........he was the Platoon Commander. And KKK was just WO2 thenOriginally posted by Gedanken:Whoops - didn't think of that. I was one of the old lot that went straight to Hendon (the old Hendon, not the current one) for BMT.

Yep Ged,Lim Song Siang (big hand joe),Ger Ah Kee,Kok Mew Chee........some left the SAF some came back and then leave again. Some like me got posted to Guards and never came back.We were a different bunch of soldiers more like the dirty dozen but the commandos of later times like your batch were more educated and better trained and equiped.Originally posted by Gedanken:Fourth batch 2 Coy? Well, whaddaya know. "Dua Chiew" was my CSM - I still keep in touch with him. In that case, you would know Ng Heng Chew too, wouldn't you?Originally posted by Short Ninja:Yep Ged,Lim Song Siang (big hand joe),Ger Ah Kee,Kok Mew Chee........some left the SAF some came back and then leave again. Some like me got posted to Guards and never came back.We were a different bunch of soldiers more like the dirty dozen but the commandos of later times like your batch were more educated and better trained and equiped.
Yes,I know him....my memory is all coming back now.Trying to remember names of people in the 90s also but I think you must have been with Lim Yeow Heng or even Yek Ming hai (fireman), Seng Chek Meng ......these people shouldnt even be in the SAF>LOL.Just kidding about my friends!Originally posted by Gedanken:Well, whaddaya know. Nah, I didn't know any of those other guys. Ng Heng Chew was my OC, and between him and Lim Song Siam they did a brilliant job of running the company.Originally posted by Short Ninja:Yes,I know him....my memory is all coming back now.Trying to remember names of people in the 90s also but I think you must have been with Lim Yeow Heng or even Yek Ming hai (fireman), Seng Chek Meng ......these people shouldnt even be in the SAF>LOL.Just kidding about my friends!
