Anyway, agree that sometimes the pay don't really matter but the odds are in your favour that way.
Last time a member of parliament came back for reservist in my unit. But then pay MP is like Govt take money from right pocket put into left pocket. -

The thing is SAF prority is to defend singapore and that means it kills so it has a different set of logics that follow. such as obeying the commands. Do the most impossible task like charge against enemy position. some people do not have a proper sense of scale here.
we're not talking about NSFs that have to spend 2 years in NS. we're talking about NSmen that spend between a week to a month playing soldier. an NSF needs to have obey every single command because he is expected to be in that kind of environment for an extended period of time, he has to be conditioned to follow every single order no matter how stupid it is. but an NSmen doesn't, once his short stint is over, they have to go back to their daily lives which involve more important things. a hair cut is the least of it.
and the argument here is not about neat and tidy hair, but the analness of what is considered neat and tidy in the army vs in the real world. -
Don't write here,write here also no use,we should write to some place to feedback the views of nsman,anyway i also think it kinda of silly to cut hair just for a week of training and on the part of the RSM tekaning,it his job loh,but if he go overboard,we just have to do what singaporeans good in, Complain.

i heard that in taiwanese army, those reservists do not need to cut their hair short or dye it back to black, unlike we singaporean counterparts.

The haircut issue is one great example of an Army that lacks common sense.
What they should preach is how to keep that long hair bundled up e.g hair net for helmet.
We are a citizen army. The ethos is different from a professional army. People make their careers based on their looks. And these careers form the economic backbone and the funding for the defence forces. -
