One more NS man dies following Taiwan jet crash

SINGAPORE: Full-time national serviceman, 19-year-old Lance Corporal Chow Han Min Calvin, who was air-lifted back to Singapore from Taiwan earlier this month, has died at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH).
MINDEF said he died at 6.37 am after his condition took a turn for the worse early Monday morning.
Lance Corporal Chow had suffered severe burn injuries after a Taiwanese F-5F aircraft crashed into a storehouse where he was located on 11 May.
MINDEF added that the other injured serviceman, 3rd Sergeant Ramakrishnan Karthigayan, is in a critical but stable condition at the Intensive Care Unit of SGH.
Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the late LCP Chow.
MINDEF and the SAF will continue to assist the family in their time of loss.
On the day of the incident, two SAF soldiers were killed in Taiwan.
They were both accorded full military funerals.

Posthumous promotions .. memorials .. will they comfort his soul and family members? Note that his is a gratuitous death; he did not habis in war.
If my ancestor habis while defending the nation, like Lt. Adnan Saidi, I would be very proud of him. I would want his story to be known and later generations to emulate his undying spirit and loyalty.
But if my ancestor died because of some freak accident .. I rather his story not be known.

Just wondering : Why must it be posthumous ? Why he cannot be promoted while still in critical condition ? So maybe he can be accorded a better class ward and higher salary to take care of family expenses.Originally posted by will4:My condolences n I hoped he will be promoted. -

During my ns times... some soldiers also died in taiwan during exercise air force and reccee trooper but they were not accorded military funeral or promoted post humously ... think this case was high profile bah

It shouldn't matter how a soldier dies.
We need a memorial. -
but the PTE who died although had full military funeral, he still died as a PTE, never heard of post-promoted leh..

i think what matters is he is sent off in a dignified manner, and the best way is a military funeral.
What's important now is to pray for the family members, i'm sure it was a trying and most difficult period.
