at least they have dignity. they choose to walk an unknown path and pursue their dreams instead of some ppl who choose to let somebody run their lives for a couple of years. you think with the fucking certs those regulars hold especially the specs and warrant officers they can get their current pay if they work outside in society?Originally posted by coldstar:outside society sucks as well. i believe there are all sorts of pple everywhere la,gd or bad.
i will graduating soon with a diploma of computer engineering. i am also interested in going university. I also heard that the life inside is not very good.Originally posted by sir sickolot II:if TS doesn't mind.. what is your academic qualifications.... if you're heading on towards university... then you should consider officership.
In any case i'm curious to know what made you interested in the army. You see, prior to enlistment we have a set of idea of what the military is like, and mostly (although not always) the pomp and paegantry of parades, the honour of serving in an elite covert unit etc...
However, this is quite distant from the truth where the work might not seem rewarding and many people do come to realise they were never meant to lead such a regimental life. But, by then, with your signature on the dotted line... it's kinda hard to make that U-turn.
As advised, do check with friends, read up on SAF... and better still, experience Unit life ( that's after BMT) before you consider a career.
If you are capable and committed, one can easily reach 2WO ( that's the most junior rank of WO grade) in his early 30s. like 30 or 31.
cheers, just my 2 cents worth.
with your current diploma, it would be quite easy to get a decent job in the 'outside world'.Originally posted by soggy87:i will graduating soon with a diploma of computer engineering. i am also interested in going university. I also heard that the life inside is not very good.
what do you mean by officership?
For my unit last time durning the nsf days,my wos all not bad leh, true is alway errand us help them do their work, but at least got offOriginally posted by bryanwong:some regulars are like this. especially some of the specs and warrant officers. think they big shot bully the NSF ask them do this & that but when the officers come these spec and warrant officers just like dogs. these specs and warrant officers only know how to pick on the weak and act garang. when they find out these NSF come from rich families or are educated they get scared of the parents. WTF. make a fool of themselves simple english cannot even speak properly. if they were to work in society you think they can push ppl around and act garang like what they do in army? give them face call them encik if not call them shi*. F off.
means going to OCS?Originally posted by sir sickolot II:with your current diploma, it would be quite easy to get a decent job in the 'outside world'.
Whether being a military man is a good life, that really boils down to personal perspective. many people hate the regimentation, dislike the career prospects and hate that it is no longer an iron rice bowl. Well, times have changed and so has the SAF.
If you wish to pursue a career in the military, my personal take is to strive for Officer scheme aka Commisioned Officers. Their route of advancement is much better, and if you can get a university degree ( and that is IF you are still interested in a career in the military)... is quite good.
First off, regiment is standard. It is how they want to enforced in your unit. Example: In my active days, I experience a cross over period of 2 RSM. One is more "close one eye" and have more leeways. The other enforced regiment to the core.Originally posted by coldstar:but wad abt air force n navy? they should be considered less regimental right? i even heard abt pple in navy who doesn't really give a shiit abt ur rank but ur seniority. i am considering signing on as specialist but i will take up a part time degree so as to sort of "save" myself when i get kick out after the 10 yr bond. but wad im afraid is tat u will be required to work unexpected shifts which may disrupt ur lessons. any regulars care to share some light abt tis?
i suppose when u enlist ( or if u're already in the service) you could inform your PC you wish to sign on as an Officer.Originally posted by soggy87:means going to OCS?
i will tell my pc that i am interested in OCS cos i am interested in SAF career?
