i kena duty not as punishment, i kena alot because there's not enough manpower. so i do at least 1 duty standby a week. last week i did 3, yesterday was my 4th. i have one more to go tomorrow. because my colleagues go for leave, i take over. when i go for leave, they take over.
my duty is 24hrs.
can't pass IPPT, then take RT. it also affects promotion. -
just to let u know, everything varies from unit to unit.
things are run differently in ALS (Air Logistics Squadron)
other squadrons have different systems too -
bottom line is i think its better for someone to sign on as an officer. if u have good A lvl results and perform well in SAF who knows can get a scholarship to study overseas.

and care to show the payscale from a 3rd seargent to a staff seargent? -

by not following orders, regimental / technical.
if your boss hates you, u can get extra just for not putting on the uniform properly.
3SG takes home around 1.7K
2SG almost 2K
1SG will go above 2K
SSG should be around 2.5 - 2.7K -
if u want to be in the technical line when you leave, don't be an officer.

looking at kopi's post, the payscale also not really attractive. staff sergent still not at least 3k. hai tink its a pretty tough trade to be in.

with yr poly diploma apply to the unis for a place in the course u like. depending on your results can get exemptions and finish yr degree in 3yrs? then find a nice job earn a decent living without feeling obligated to the SAF -

im interested in signing on air force coz ive been interested in aviation since i was a kid.but i couldn't make the cut for pilot,so settle for senior tech lor. besides,i dunwan to work in a desk bound job for the rest of my life mah. -

dun sign on. after u enlist, u will find that in the SAF, life is not real, because watever u do, doesnt really affect the rest of the world... plus, no char bor. no freedom, sucky cookhouse food, regimental.
u suffer so much, have to do extras and all that crap, kenna charged for stupid things by officers who think they are gods. for f___?
in the civilian world, just point the middle finger at them and say "up yours!".. or a milder version would be to talk back to your boss and quit.

however, in a civilian job, u wont get charged for minor things when people wanna make life difficult for u.
in a civilian job, OT is paid, ppl cant give u extra or charge u. high tech camera phones are allowed. mp3s are allowed.
SAF ask u to work anytime, shift work, for very little money. 24hr standbys also, depending on vocation.
and WOSE are always at the losing end of any argument.

my friend complained over the 3rd finger incident and questioned what right did the SSG have to interfere in the parade and our S4 was very pissed. worse i had a fatty friend who was pushed around like a dog by the sgt and WO. 1 day he fainted and went to hosp. and his parents came down and make hell lot noise and everybody could see that the sgt and WO were scared.

each got its own pros n cons la.the civilian sector isn;t a bed of roses either.u also work damn long hrs sitting at ur desk all day. who can tahan? somemore sometimes 7 days a week. ur bosses also can cancel ur offs or leave as they like also. pay also give peanuts.

i know, i was once like u. damn nearly signed on too.
anyway, watever i said can only be experienced once u r considered operational in the vocation u r posted, or for units that are higher end, selected for.
if u are not even a commander (3SG and above) in NS, then life would sux even more. -
u have to come to my unit where we (the ranks you have stated) don't 'carry balls'
