those old smelly smelly kind with hardly a machine but plenty of freeweights like dumbbells and barbells.
The latter is the best for training.
Which gym are you referring to? I think Tekong Gym refers to the Ladang Gym, the big one beside the swimming pool. I found the equipment rather good. The brand of the machines is FreeMotion, same brand used in California Fitness if I am not wrong. As the name suggests, the machines use cables instead of inflexible metal, which probably better simulates normal body range-of-motion. There is a rack with lots of dumbells, some treadmills and elliptical trainers. The other gyms are comparatively older and smellierOriginally posted by borntolive:
U wont like the gym, in fact i hated it..
lets see in tekong, there are 4 same sets of those multi-station exercise machines. u know wad i mean, machine shoulder press, lat pull downs, cable rows, leg curl all in 1.
in additon, several threadmills..
there is no bench press, racks, benches and wad have u got. I dont even think they have dumbell n barbells. In fact i only saw 1 barbell in the gym n very little 5-10kg pastic plates. However i think the barbell is bought to the gym by one of the nsf which mean it doesnt belong to the gym...
That is for tekong, i not sure of other gyms, but i m pretty sure its the same. I been to Maju camp n the gym though is nicer but no better all multistation machines n threadmills.
U know why they dont include barbellm dumbells, bench, racks? its cause its pretty dangerous..
u wont have much time to use them anywayOriginally posted by Simon Dean:i prefer gyms that are simple with freeweights.
Machines are pretty useless for building functional strength.Exceptions are cable pulley machines.
I'm getting the idea here that you're one of those hardcore bodybuilder types. I used to be somewhat like that before I enlisted so I roughly know what you're looking for. Sad to say, SAF gyms don't cater to hardcore bodybuilders.Originally posted by Simon Dean:Is it those fanciful kind like commercial gyms?

Haha, yea lor, and that's only because they can watch TV and "exercise" at the same time. I remember last time when I was in RT, and that night, was Spore vs Thailand final at National Stadium. Everyone dash into the gym and try to get onto the cycling because that TV is tuned onto Channel 5. Our PTIs LL, tell us to at least pretend we doing some exercise while watching soccer.Originally posted by Gordonator:Maju FCC gym is great by my standards. the favourite station among the NSmen is the cycling stations.
