Hi everyone,
I also got a VA for NDU, but I have a few issues I hope you guys can help me answer or help with, it will be greatly appreciated!
- I do not know how to swim, will that be a problem regarding my chances of getting into it?
- What will be the starting pay monthly for new recruits like me?
- Are they able to book out very often or most of the time have to stay in?
- Is it worth it to get into NDU? Considering the danger of risks involved...
- Where will I be if I get OOC? Still in the Navy?
Looks like there are lots of questions but I hope someone can at least address a few points to help me be ready and make more solid decisions whether I should go for it...
Thanks people. Have a good day!

Hi, i can answer the questions..
swimming isnt a prob, NDU believes in training, so its ur attitude that counts.
pay is the same until u get diving allowance...
u pass out as cpl unless kena sent to OCS.
If u as me, no. Because i have my passion elsewhere, but some people enjoy the challenge and prestige so it is subjective.
OOC rate is really high and something u might not have control over.
Can be in navy, some also bk to army. depends.
90% sure.
Thanks so much for the reply Pitot!
U said something about "unless kena sent to OCS", this is the part where I am confused.
U mean I will still have a chance to go OCS even though I passed out? Sorry actually I don't even know what passing out means... :(
Cause from what I know, we only can go OCS through the normal BMT at Tekong but since I will not be going there for my BMT I still can get to OCS?
Thanks in advance.
Yes got chance to go into OCS after NDU BMT then come back as an officer with NDU
But you need to be supra high flyer
Haha I see... then can I ask again, in the letter they asked me to bring my NAPFA results slip or certificate... but my school I don't think will have leh... How ar? Do they check my NAPFA results during VA?
It says (If any) at the end right?
dont worry so much, treat it as an open house.

I had friends who have already recieved letter for the CDO interview but me who is also pes A same as them recieved nothing from MINDEF.
Do they ramdonly select pple for CDO or NDU course?
random...
wow random? even if someone "performs very well" for his VA?
Selection for VA is for those PES A with eyesight of 150 degrees and below.
Then they will pick and select from the pool after VA.

Oh... but doesn't that means a lot of people will get VA? Given that the requirements is pretty easy to achieve? Sorry ignore my previous post, I misintepreted about the random thingy...
Not many people have good eyesight in this day and age, and besides, not all those that goes into VA get selected.

Oh... haha I see. Maybe just because most people I know or around me just nice don't have eyesight problems... then can I ask how about the IQ thing test which I took during my medical checkup to get my PES, does it affect the VA chances too? Cause I remembered clearly I said "NO"s to those questons which asked me about wanting to do water related activities.... Sigh

Evening all, I just received a letter from cmpb telling me to go to Hendon camp for a vocational testing. This, I presume is for the commandos. My dad as a former commando NSF has been pressuring me to bring up my childhood asthma(but i've alr brought it up to the MO) and sensitive nose(ie. some form of running nose in the morning and very cold airconditioned rooms) and try to get out of commando selection as according to him, the cons (injury, physical and mental strain/torture) outweigh the pros. i'm PES A. and my nafa timing for my 2.4 has barely scrapped the passing mark.
I'm on the fence here, I really don't mind going thru the whole Commando NS period(if selected) as mentally and phyically(save for running) I think it shouldn't be a prob. I'm personally against all this drama but I'm pragmatic. Having heard of all the possibilities of long term injuries etc. Is it really worth it? thanks.

Hello,
I'm scheduled to be down for an NDU VA on the 19th of Feb.
Can I get some answers to these queries?
1) The interview: What questions will be asked, what are the answers expected (if you wanna get in)
2) The physical assessment: What is tested?
) Pressure Chamber: Whats this?
4) Psychology interview: Whats this?
5) How much does NAPFA play a part in selection?
6) Does childhood asthma affect my chances?
Well, having personally gone through the cdo VA test..I can say that I felt inspired the moment I stepped in.
After the simple fitness test, you'll come face to face with usually the manpower head..and you can sound off your health worries to him. He will be a reasonable person..
But having said that, 90% of the people in Cdos never regretted saying Yes to be part of the red family =) It'll run in you the moment you enter, and leave you on your deathbed
For Honour And Glory! =)
