Ranger Tab = Elites in Commandos Battalion
Guards Tab = Elites in Guards Division
Ty for answer. Hahaz nvm lah respect can be earned many other ways. Hopefully i get into either of this 2 units.

Maybe rethink that one. I don't look down on Guardsmen (or any other unit for that matter), and I'd wager that Ninja doesn't either.
At the end of the day, the military's meant to be working as an integrated whole with each soldier and unit doing their own jobs, so there's really no room for subjectivity. If anything, I'd take my hat off to the Guards - they do a tough job and we (intentionally or otherwise) rob them of a lot of credit.

And if you want to go into guards, don't waste your time. to be honest nobody respect guards. people only respect commandos. don't beleive go out and ask those who have been through NS, they have no respect for guards. although people will say the training is about the same as commandos. But the fact is NO,commando is way tougher, and people out there just look down on guards. waste of time. COMMANDOS IS WAY MORE TOUGHER THEN GUARDS FOR SURE..... And i also think ALL commandos look down on guards for sure.
NO offence to Guards, I am just stating some FACTS of how people out there tell me (Regular and NSF)
Which people out there told you so? If you are blessed to be posted to Cdo,my first advice to you is to remove your nickname or change to more humble one.2nd advice is to listen carefully and follow close instructions from your trainers inside and you should be ok.Good Luck!

Dude u seriously need to get your facts right. We all play our respective parts in the defense of our nation. And no, we DO NOT look down on guards. Comic verbal banter maybe, but we do not condescend. Those whom u speak of that have gone through NS but don't respect guards obviously haven't been in any of the mentioned units.

Rather than just mentioned Guards etc, i would say noone should really look down on any vocation in the army especially the logistics side. Most take the logistics units for granted but without the logisticians supporting the army, most of the combat units will have problems going about most of their training regime.
Ranger Tab & Guards Tab
Maybe it'll be better if u enter the service first before shooting your mouth off? just a word of advice. cos everything's what you've heard. As i said, we all serve our roles in the SAF.
Oh btw, does NDU hav officer posts? I have only seen specs of NDU no officers .

Yup. Like all of the military NDU has officers, WO, specs and men. Not to mention 2 women, one's a LTA the other's a MAJ if i'm not wrong.

well i do not look down on a guardsman, although i have my pride in my unit but i respect the men in the other FMNs for the things they went through, everyone has a part to play in protecting our nation.
its not a waste of time in regardless where you serve, its all abt the tough times you went through, the brotherhood you forged, the lessons in life you learnt in that 2 years that you won't find elsewhere.

Hi nacacorps,
It is fine to wear spectacles, though there is a degree limit for commandos.
Cheers.

Could a person possibly be selected if he declared so?This was unheard of before.

Hi Short Ninja,
Yes, it is alright to declare that you wear spectacles nowadays, as long as it is not more than 250 degrees for each eye. It is a myth that one has to have perfect eyesight to be a commando.
Cheers.
Yup a large amt of soldiers today wear specs, thus cdo has to adjust it's requirements too. oh i take back what i said abt it being impossible. the other way is to sign on as a regular.
thanks!! oh mann..i dun fit the bill for wearing specs....why didnt i cherish my eyes when i was younger!! lol! :P
anyway how do they select people to send out the selection letters for interview, from the way i see it, its pretty much based on luck...is it true?

I won't say that it is base entirely on luck, since your PES must be there to even have a chance at getting the letter to begin with. But interestingly, there are people who fail their NAPFA who got the VA letter...
Fitness can be trained. And are trained. If not RT till your balls burst. lol

oooohh u mean u guys went for the normal checkup at cmpb afterwhich, you all will receive a further letter for interview/ assessment?

All interviews etc for NDU, commandos etc is sure to be after your medical checkup since there is no logic in them calling up a person for an interview only to realise later his PES is unsutable.
