Is the GCC for specs same as the one for rifle men? I've heard there's GSCC and GOCC.

got... extra stuff for commanders...
Ahhhh. Oh well, time to prepare myself mentally for the worst then.

all commanders, officers and specs alike are put together into one batch, so the course is called GCC in general, no need to classify into GSCC or GOCC liao.
for men it's called Advanced Infantry Training (AIT).
Of course, GCC more siong than AIT. GCC got sumex, AIT don't have.... at least my AIT dun have....
all the best to you, Vai fan, haha :)
Heh, kinda obvious that I'm a Vai fan eh? Summex sounds tough but that's the least of my worries. Rappelling, however, is a different case...
if it's about a fear of heights, i can only say that when you are up at the training tower or the heli, i don't think you have a choice. fear is something you can't eradicate totally, but the fear kinda subside the more you rappel. Then after a few months when you thought you don't have to rappel anymore, suddenly a live rappel comes along and the fear creeps back, haha. it's amusing though. I have a fear of heights too.
curious, you posted to Brigade or Battalion?
Haha that's what everyone says, hoping for the best. No idea dude, what's the diff between the brigade and batallion? Tomorrow's the first time I'm reporting there.
brigade is one level higher than battallion.
a brigade consists of a few battalions.
all the best to you, don't worry too much, can pass one, so many had done it :)
Haha, I know what a brigade is and I know what a batallion is, just wanna know the difference being posted to either one.

obviously, being posted to a higher level is better. best of all is being posted to the HQ division / formation level...
Oh okay, thanks for all the help and info. Hopefully they'll give me a few days of leave before I head into the training.
EDIT.
I know being posted to a higher level is better, but I'll still be a section commander, no?

oops sorry....
imo training and working environments between brigade and battalion are different, but also depends on the individuals you come across.

Not always the case. A 3SG can be just any other Specialist at Brigade/Division level. Or even a clerk.
You may not get to command men, or if you do, it's because you are a team leader or whatnot.
I'm enlisted to commando on 9 jan. Any idea when will be my first book out? And can I bring in a charger to charge my phone?
Things may have changed since my time, but if they haven't, the amount of time available for phone calls will not be any strain at all on your phone's batteries.
My time we had to call the operator and begged for an outside line>LOL
what about when's my bookout date? any idea?

Now in my day, the answer would be, "F***ing recruit, do I look like your f***ing PA who manages your f***ing calendar?! Haven't even f***ing enlisted yet and already want to know what your f***ing bookout date is?! KNOCK IT DOWN!".
Then again, given what passes for an army these days, damned if I know what they'll tell you.
In my days there were no parent visit day for recruits and your first book out date is when you actually get to book out cuz the possibility of getting a weekend confinement on those days are especially high.Any such questions would be accompanied by 20 knee benders (obsolete) 20 burpees (obsolete) and 20 push ups so I suggest you make things easy for yourself like being a 'buddhist' for those three months and not think too much about earthly things.
Ninja, my understanding is that if you want to give someone 20 push-ups these days, it must be signed and stamped in triplicate by the PC, OC and CSM, and then sent up to Mindef, where that idiot swine ex-pretend-sailor will swear to the press that he will get to the bottom of things. After six months, some pencilneck at Gombak will come back with approval for 3 push-ups.
Merry Christmas Ged, I really don't know how much the SAF have changed since our times in terms of handing out minor punishment and redefining the meaning of ' ill treatment'.I do remember in 1980 when Cdo recruits were still ordered to keep their belts and boots shining and No 4 uniform ironed at all times even though the whole SAF had already scrapped that practice. It is a tradition where Cdo recruits/ trainees are always expected to go the extra mile even when it is not necessary to do so. I hope the TS understands this 'For Honor and Glory'
Merry Christmas, Ninja!
By my time, the only really polished boots we had was for the Number 1 uniform, and these days even those boots are PVC or some other shiny material.
When we moved to the new Hendon camp, the company lines and parade square were within direct line of sight of the RSM's office, so a lot of the less officially-sanctioned activities had to be stopped. In any case, by that time we had Ng heng Chew as an OC, and all of that extra bullshit was never his style anyway - he preferred to focus on training us to do the job right.
That said, TSRhas gotten ridiculous these days. Last I heard, the limit for push-ups was 20, but that was a few years ago.
I belong to the dirty dozen blood thirsty rambo styled fighters of yesteryears but it is the better trained well equipped troopers of today that does the real damage to the enemy. All I can brag now is the madness I went through and put others through when I was there>LOL
What are the list of items I need to prepare/bring in for my enlistment on the first day? And what are the activities I can expect to happen on the first few days and first few weeks? What are the free times I have?
