I have decided to sign up for SAF.

How many times must I say.
Serve NS then sign on the dotted line if you can tahan it. We don't need more regulars who are not in it for the passion. -

You have to decide whether you want to bein the Army, Navy or Air Force, an officer or a specialist (non-degree holders don't go very far with the former), and then there are several different vocations that you have to choose from. Remember you'll be in this for at least 10 years once you sign on.
What should you expect? Annual IPPT and range firing, duty this-and-that, parades, half marathons, projects, exercises, audits galore, performance ranking and (depending on vocation) attachments to SAF camps overseas.
You'll have to use up your leave every calendar year. There are benefits you can claim from but if you quit early you have to pay back, with interest.
You'll get jaded easily if you go in with the images from boyhood, the advertisements or the movies. It can get very political among colleagues and with difficult superiors. Heed the advise of the others and experience NS first, because you'll have one year from your enlistment date to decide. -

myself, i went into the SAF thinking that i wanna sign on because:
1 ) real comradeship... cheong together albeit against an imaginery enemy
2 ) brotherhood
3 ) help each other in times of need
4 ) loyalty to country

i went into the SAF and after ORDing, i look back...
1 ) Blue always win, Red always lose. training sux coz not realistic. the instructor also say "u die, u die, u die". wtf. out of blanks/ weapon jam, use the universal round "bang bang bang" also can. joke.
2 ) only in schools
3 ) only in schools
4 ) does not exist
5 ) only in story books, or fancy talks by politicians
6 ) so?
and i learnt that...
1 ) things get lost in SAF very easily. never trust your brothers in arms too much
2 ) no one wanna work
3 ) rank/appointment talks
4 ) if u do wat the ranking person wants u to do and fail, he will still blame u n say u dunno u arent supposed to be doing it. when u kpkb and say that already.
5 ) good no one say u good unless u r the best. ppl need to promote "heroes" so the rest have somebody as an example
6 ) bad, ppl make sure u die until u really jialat jialat. then become the infamous "hero" who cant do anything right.
7 ) rank can cause a young 2LT to talk rudely to somebody who is old enough to be his father. calling him by his name, and all that.
and a lot more.
but in a nutshell, i'd like to say that money can be earned somewhere else, but your lifespan is limited. wat u gonna do once SAF used u and spat u out? without experience in anything other than Army... how? -

my advise is echoed by all others mostly... always GO IN EXPERIENCE SAF 1ST, THEN TALK CAREER WITH SAF. u will get ur 2 years experience of saf like all of us... if army good, then why r we forumers not regulars? food for ur thoughts,.... i oso poly grad... very glad and fortunate that my mentality is stable, emotionally rigid not to be swayingly brainwashed during saf talks in poly or during recruits' time in bmt... -

my advise is echoed by all others mostly... always GO IN EXPERIENCE SAF 1ST, THEN TALK CAREER WITH SAF. u will get ur 2 years experience of saf like all of us... if army good, then why r we forumers not regulars? food for ur thoughts,.... i oso poly grad... very glad and fortunate that my mentality is stable, emotionally rigid not to be swayingly brainwashed during saf talks in poly or during recruits' time in bmt...
after i enlisted and saw bumped into him (i dunno him but i can recognise faces), he was in SCDF. -
If you simply wan a stable govt job why not consider being DXO civilian officer instead

Always make an informed decision.
Army contracts are not short-term, and if you are on a JPSDS, you have to pay back a quantum if you break the contract. -
do u like walking endlessly at nite to attack half-dead in the morning?
do u like unreasonable "alert reds" and standbys?
do u like lazing around during lull period doing duties?
do u like signing 1206s?
do u like lazy superiors always pushing down work to u?
do u like it when others have more free time than u?
sure outside find job abit difficult...but u think signing on is easy now? -
signing on is not like u walk into department store see something very nice very colourful u buy it but at home finds out it's a piece of crap. what will u do next? simple throw it away right?
but what if it says, sorry u cannot try it away, no refund and u must continue using it for the next 10 years. -
hey , i suggest you go through BMT first then consider whether you wanna sign on anot, its a very big decision.

My advice to TS is,if you really interested to sign on,consider it only after you serve your BMT.From the questions you ask,it can show most of us that you did not even check about information regarding saf as a career,you should ask around the regulars here or any others if u know any,don't trust those advertisements,etc their main objectives is for promotion only.
