YES, they can kill.
But 90% of the time the rifle always IA. -
Killing for the sake of killing and killing for the sake of survival are 2 different issues. When its purely on survival..I believe many will not hesitate.

imagine this happening on both sides of the war. where only 20% are firing, while the other 80 % are just acting busy. less casualties, lower cost.

during war.....when enemy is shooting at you.....when ur friend died or kena injured becoz of enemy fire.....confirm you will shoot back to kill the enemy.....

We all think we can kill when the situation arises, when our buddies are shot, when there is anger, when our survival is in question. What makes us so sure?
The investigation calls this general assumption into question. Besides, how many soldiers, S'porean included, who have gone on to the battlegrounds will openly admit they chickened out/ hesitated/ pretended not to see/ evade taking action?
I am inclined to believe that our soldiers will succumb to brainwashed psychopathic enemies who take killing as second nature.
So, let's brainwash them recruits! -

Sun Tzu said before, for every soldier fighting in the front, there is 5 more doing support.
To bring a soldier to the front, you need a driver to drive, mechanic to fix the tonner, storeman to perpare rations, RP/MP to secure the route, and ammo guy to provide ammo -
our soldiers wont go to war in the first place.
maybe only the warrant officers and the regulars will go -
i dont like the modern battlefield, i prefer something like WW2.

honestly, i have never IA-ed while firing live rounds before... theres this once where i got a faulty magazine, but that was the only time a rifled IA-ed on me in while firing live rounds.
maybe im the only guy who believes in the maintenance of my personal weapons...

Killing if u're speaking about combat from the grunt's perspective where rounds are traded 50-100m or closer from each other...is different, from say arty fire, zooming by in an F16 at 5,000ft and dumping 6 Mk82s or firing a Harpoon at another ship.
Bombing and firing missiles are easy...i myself can't answer the question if i will be able to pull the trigger because i have never been in such a situation before. -

I can't even bring myself to hit a person and if I were to be in the situation where I am required to kill... I do not know what would happen. -

serious, i think that the thought of 'kill or be killed' would be quite a motivating factor. personally, i dun wanna die. -
In any case all human beings are capable of killing or taking another person lives. Is a fact.
in the case of SAF. Yes because SAF train their soldier that enemy is not human being they are targets.
Younger generation grew up playing computer game. Another target practices. It is train with very little human touch. So yes SAF soldier can kill. -
I'm from Recce. If I ever fire my gun at the enemy, it means it's either death for the enemy or me. High chance that I will be included on the death list if this ever happens.

You see an enemy soldier come charging at you, with that blank searching look, firing all around you but did not notice you yet. You know that when he does notice you, he gonna shoot your innards outta you and spill your brains too!!
What do you do? Say hi and drop your weapon? Turn around and run and knowing that a bullet/s will soon be charging up your ass? Cry for your momma and pappa to come get you outta this mess?
No........you do what your instinct will help you to survive in this environment. Shoot the goddammed enemy, so he cannot shoot your first, or put a bullet/s up your ass when your turn around to run......I will......KILL EM!!.....KILL EM ALL!!.....OR DIE trying!! Cos I know I will take at least one of em before i die!!
