Hi guys, i'm interested to find out what is stand by universe? What do they actually check? The difference between stand by bed and all.
And some people would actually buy 2 sets of everything to be ready for anytime stand by universe. What would those items be? I know of like toothpaste, toothbrush, soup, maybe 1 set of clothes. Any more else that would be checked?

Stand By Bed:
- Just open locker, make your bed neatly...Stand beside locker
Stand by Universe:
- Everything inside your locker, bag etc out onto the bed...Usually in times where there was a theft...Suay when SGTs want to do it...Lolz...
Its called universe cos everything comes out and is in a mess after that...Machiam got black hole come by...
2 sets for stand by universe? Why leh? I would understand if 1 set for use 1 set for display...But since stand by universe everything out...Then no point rite?
Stand by bed would check your locker and bed neatness...So getting extra sets might help abit only...Personally I didn't need it...

I stand by universe in my unit until sian man.
KNN, they treat stand by universe like very fun like that.
My one still got:
Stand by Field Pack: Dump everything out of your field pack and they check whether you wrapped everything tight and nice.
Stand by Toilet: Everyone take a cubicle/some area.
Stand by Locker: Locker nia. But because it's only locker, they are very strict.
Stand by Bunk: Like stand by universe, except if outside got leaves around never mind.

stand by universe simply means a more extensive version of stand by bed.
stand by bed onli check bunk area, but stand by universe means every f places tt is under ur platoon's/ coy's charge. depends on the person inspecting, the definition varies. if ur csm/spec/officer 's std by bed includes the toilets n all the places under ur charge, den there's actually not much different btw std by bed n std by universe.
the kind where something is lost n must display everything is not std by universe, but in those situations, usualli everyone will be gathered somewhere outside bunk(normal fall in area) n the officer will make sure no one goes back to bunk (usually bunk IC ordered to lock bunk). one by one, officers n specs will into bunk first followed by men, n men will std next to their bed. specs/officers will search everywhere, so if u got contraband items, good luck.
dun need to buy anything, everything tt is needed for stdby will be issued, like toothbrush/toothpaste. usually everyone will use the issued items for display to "standardise", so bring ur own toiletries for personal use (esp toilet paper, it's needed for stdby n personal use, better haf 2, one for each function).
2 sets No.4 needed for stdby, dunno the standard now... somehow someone will teach u how to display the items, dun worry. the other 3 sets use for normal use shld be sufficient.
if u need additional items, go emart buy lah, y waste ur own $$? -

just open your cupboard, make sure u arrange everything according to SAF standard, and everything is neat can already. your spec want more things, u take out lah.
EDIT: no kiwi stains on the floor, things cannot hang without using a hanger... and all that bunk cleanliness nonsense also. must wipe your bed frame, sweep under the bed, behind the cupboard, on top of the cupboard and everywhere on the cupboard, your bunk's tables and chairs.. as long as its visible, it has to be clean.
but dun worry, u will still be punished one. -
do bring some biscuits along, bring liquid soap/shower foam easier to use than bar soap... bring more toilet pp for e confinement. good luck for NS daes

Stand by universe? ~lol~ What a wonderful description.
I did the pack-two-sets-of-everything too in my time. It's not kiasu, but very practical as you will find out in time.
For BMT right through vocation course, including OCS/SISPEC if applicable, the regimentation will usually prompt the enlistees to set aside one set of items as "permanent" displays ~shrug~
Once you get into the unit (presumably combat side) & it becomes ops-ready, you'll do proper week-long standby quite regularly & must prepare a standard-list fullpack for these periods. For convenience, the majority of troops packs the required stuff into different "parcels" (ziplock bags) &, during the downtimes, leave them untouched inside the cupboard.
I found a list of the items online. Most will be issued to you, except perhaps the toiletries. Not sure if things are still as strict now but, during my ITD time (1980s), even personal stuff like plastic mugs & torches & shaving kits must be "standardized." What happened was my Ptn Sgt collected money from all the RECs, bought the stuff at the Tekong gift shop, & distributed the plastic bags to us like the Primary Schoolers & their textbooks. No negotiation, no pick-&-choose, & any stuff you brought in yourself was "rejected."

my BMT PC and sgts order a stand by locker just so that they can look at our girlfriends pics in our lockers. they even specifically ordered everyone to bring girlfriends pics when booking in.

Haha...Ok...
Cos thats what my friend told me when we tio the 'everything-on-the-bed'...
Anyway, if no one mention it before...Get the biggest ziplogs you can find...And if you dun buy before you enlist, its ok one...Cos I think your trainers will tell you to go beach road buy the thicker one (Comparing to normal ziplogs sold at supermarket)...
The big ones are used to store sets of clothes...So probably you know how big you need bah?
