Anyone can identify this weopon being carried during the demonstration? Didn't know we had it in service.

SAR21, t-rail with a 3.0x scope.

I've played with it a few years back. Heavier but has a better centre of gravity.
Hope they solved the mount integrity issue.

it's a SAR 21 with alot of 'add-ons'... basically i think it just means it's heavier, not anymore practical than the original one.

the "scope" is actually an EOTECH reflex sight, super ex piece of equipment IMHO.

ever seen a M16a4 RIS?
i have handled a real KA one and boy does it feel light! less than 400 grams IMHO... (just the RIS, no gun = =)
should be even lighter on the SAR21 given that its smaller,shorter and made of aircraft grade aluminium or al/mg alloy. -

If it's in service it'll be in service with some elite group. Normal infantry will never see it. -

I still think it's too costly to equip all the Bns with such technology. Actually cost is not an issue ( with MINDEF since when was cost an issue) but whether it is cost effective, now that's a different set of problem. -

to be honest, do infantry need such stuff in the first place? don't forget that they will be doing alot of footwork, and the weight may bog them down. Our infantry is made up of Asians, who are not as muscular as the westerners. (My observations. Don't flame meOriginally posted by sir sickolot II:one day....... but when will that day be?

Just kidding.
But if you have to ask, yet the infantry will eventually need such stuff in the future battlefield. It makes little sense to go network centric on all your other assets when your most numerous (and intelligent) set of ears and eyes are unable to get that information into the network.
The thing is, such concepts and equipment are still in their infancy and hence first generation stuff tends to be heavy and somewhat less-then-pratical, but as technology improves it's going to change the way wars are fought.
Imagine your squad is pinned down under fire and unable to return fire, but you know where the enemy is. Instead of running the sarge and asking him to coms back to the PC, the most chao private in your squad can now pass the information right up the chain of command without having to go through multiple channels and request for fire support.
Imagine you know where each and every of your own dudes are at everytime, and your platoon can pull off complex movements and react extremely quickly to any change in the battlespace without all the shouting and confusion that often comes into battle.
So yes, such stuff isn't too ready yet... but there's a need for it. -
I seem to see red berets in the background of the first pic? Is this a combined performance by the 3rd and the commandos? The commandos, if I am not wrong, are carrying mp5s. Do commandos use mp5 for fibua? Or are they by any slim chance SOF?
The first pic looks staged, possibly a group shot or is this also part of performance?
Actually, I need to enquire as to why the 3rd div uses camou paint for fibua? I saw them on several occasions with camou. Is tare a need? -
