Regular specialists become officers

I heard that those regular specialist can convert to officers.
Like a 2WO can convert to a CPT..
a 1SGT convert to 2nd lieutant..
How true is this. -
yah, and a coperal can convert to 2nd SGT.

My Engineering Officer was a specialist before he was recommended by the CO to an officer conversion course...
Air Force ar...Other units I dunno...
I dun think WO can convert to CPT...But 1SG or 2SG can go for a conversion course provided he's recommended by his superiors... -

a WO NCO can convert to a commissioned officer. but pay cut a lot when compare between WO and LTA/CPT payscale.

Plus he effectively cuts his career short 10 yrs. Officers serve till 45, while WOSE can server up to 50 or 55 (for WO). Why is there so many rumours of "conversion"
it's often mistaken...
most WO "convert" to hold a normally commissioned officer post.... not that they literaly convert, but to do so, they have to convert themselves to a DXO first.
Some camp commandants (traditionally MAJ post) are being filled by DXOs.
This applies to some specialised weapon training courses too. Like course commander is a MWO or DXO but he is filling a typically CPT or MAJ post.
The only stories of conversions i have heard are normally Specialist in the 2SG to 1SG ranks. They are recommended to go OCS to convert. By doing so, it also means they have to cancel their specialist contract first and they re-sign a new contract. -

anyone can clarify , last time during OLDS days, got 1 WO by nick of Tiger .... likes to takan officier in parade square, later the Tiger got force to conversion course to officier .. true or not huh

I knew a chap who revocated from the combat engineers as a 2nd SGT, did very well during his BCT and leaders course, and went onto OCS after ....
maybe that counts as a "conversion" ...

I will rather be a 1WO than a Maj. Somemore Maj retire at 45 WO retire at 55

Never heard of combat side, actually. The closest is logistics, but they're very rear-echelon & I dunno what their COC is like. DXOs are supposed to be only part of MINDEF strength & not the SAF's. But the rest of what you said is true.
BTW To all, one don't "convert" to officer, one gets "commissioned". Neither do we practice the Commissioned Warrant Officer system, rather, we appoint them. Hence, in some cases, to commandent level.
"Tiger" Hong Seng Mak retired as a CPT, as did the other famous one, Shamsuddin. But I'm not sure if the old WOSE corps could get promoted like that. Then again, they were also before my time.
