I'm feeling worried... About this problem if i NS

I'm going for NS next year um... but i have this major problem...
i dun really like water sports... or like rather to say swimming lol...
umm... do they teach swimming there?
I dunno really noe how to swim...
Am i able to just do the on land training or?
How tough is the swimming or what?

swimming is actually easy. just start slow and learn the correct way to swim and to keep afloat.

when u at the edge of the pool praying before u swim and nervous im sure ur pc will kindly kick u in the a ss and ta da, u'll love the water

When was in primary school i almost drowned that was scary
perhaps that time i got this scareness to it lol... umm...
my body also not look very appealing umm... might be another eye opening thing...
the last time i tried to float i couldnt... i dunno how...
how does 1 normally take to learn swimming btw? -

there the pool is rather shallow. u will be able to stand above the water comfortably. They will teach u using floats if u really cant swim. Anyway they will give u commandos caps leh.

during bmt all recruits will go for swim test where they will swim 1 lap any style, as long as u make it to the other side u win, if u cant swim or if u r afraid of water, tell them, u fail swim test, n u will have swim lessons.Originally posted by EMOguy:I'm going for NS next year um... but i have this major problem...

n when u r having swimming lessons, rest of guys most likely will be resting in bunk or doing other routine stuff.. -
the fastest way to perfect you swimming skill and stamina is to play a game of retrieving the coin.
Years ago when i was at JKT i went to the swimming pool everyday.
Before that i only had the ability to do freestyle and frogstyle only for a while and get exhausted easily.
Then my uncle thought me how to stay afloat by paddling. I was brave at the time coz only swimming pool mah. If anything were to happen you can just jump up and down until you reach an edge or something.
Patience is most important.
I used to always throw a coin at the deepest part of the pool and me and my brother would race to see who could get the coin first. At first of course i struggled abit coz my stamina wasn't that good. But as time passed by i grew fond of it and could tahan the pressure all.
Dun be afraid of pressure too. Your body will adapt to it sooner or later. -
Dont worry too much. There arent many water activities in army actually. For BMT, they will separate u into swimmers and non-swimmers. For non-swimmers, you will go for swimming lessons that are conducted in medium pools, not deep pools, which means your feet can still reach the bottom of the pool. And if you think you really have phobia of water, you can tell your platoon commander. I have some friends who got away with this excuse, provided you are convincing enough and your platoon commander is taken in by it.
After BMT, you wont have much chances of water activities, unless you are being posted to the more elite combat forces where they have things like 2km swim, river crossing, diving etc. But even if you really sway sway kenna posted to such a unit, dont worry. All the combat water activities come with inflated life jacket. You will never drown unless you didnt wear the jacket properly or the jacket is damaged. -
the more u hate it, the more likely they'll send u there. NDU is your ans.

my bmt only got 2 swimming lesson cos rest of the lesson CAT 1.
and dun worry, around 1/2 of the people oso dunno how to swim properly one. -

They bring you to pool, ask u breast stroke 1 lap... u can, u can, no nid swim liao, if u can't you be labelled as NDU...
Then need to come for 5 swimming lesson, play water de, quite fun. At the end of 5 lesson, main ting is can survive with the float lah. No nid noe how to swim. To be honest I rather swim than get Tekan/Area Cleaning or wat shit in the bunk. That time I go swimming, the rest cleaning drain... -
they will give u red swimming cap to wear.
anyway if u lucky enough u dont even need to swim. My friend manage to keng his way out of every swimming lesson -

USually the swimmming in NS (army) is close one eye..i remember my time not compulsory to pass
