wheeled IFVs are being looked at, enough to form three battalions.Originally posted by storm_freaky13:New armoured vehicles coming? or just more Bionixs?

FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska (AP) - U.S. Army Alaska is conducting a joint training exercise with the Singapore Army.
It started today at Fort Wainwright, and will last through August 27th.
The joint training is called Exercise Lightning Strike 2007.
About 600 Stryker soldiers will train with about 100 soldiers from Singapore in a variety of military exercises, most of which will involve the unit's Stryker vehicles and use of the post's Military Operations in Urbanized Terrain center.

Hmm......... really? I was thinking since 3SIR is the new designated UO bn, and the new stryker style BDE is going to be operating in urban setting, then won't the best candidate be 3SIR? I mean the new UO gears are very heavy, so don't u think the wheeled IFV is a more rapid and suitable deployment tool for them in the urban setting?Originally posted by Rockhound:4 SIR..they just left this week
from wat i gather.. 2 and 4 SIR are gonna be changed from leggies to stryker-style units in the foreseeable future
I think it's more of the US Army unit in question, and the experience that they have.Originally posted by Arapahoe:I guess this is 100 spartan in extreme sport.
i only have 1 question? why did they choose Alaska for the joint training? I know it is summer right now the day time weather is
Feels like: 65°
Humidity: 72%
Wind: SW 6 mph
At night is 44 degree. come late August weather will take another down turn.
the guys that go there will freeze their butt out and will have hard time getting an errect ion.
why overstress one unit....they are just there to train and share and stuffOriginally posted by equlus84:Hmm......... really? omg! 4 SIR...... i reserve my comments..Originally posted by Rockhound:4 SIR..they just left this week

Erm rockhound, dun get me wrong...... I mean that most western armies' urban operation battalions have wheeled IFV to complement their operations. I think this valid as those ladders, shields, robots, LCD they carry are pretty heavy, so the IFV can help them overcome the mobility issues.Originally posted by Rockhound:why overstress one unit....they are just there to train and share and stuff
exercises like this would still have representatives from the CDO to look at the concept more seriously...
in the end...all the SIRS would be fully UO trained....
yeah...well den..they gotta change alot of things...knowing SAF...they tend to rush on the stupid things and dunt rush on practical improvements...Originally posted by equlus84:Erm rockhound, dun get me wrong...... i personally doubt SAF will make all INF bcos UO bn. This is due to cost issues and most of our potential OPFOR their terrains are still mainly forrest and plantations, so I think maybe a BDE per combine armed division.
current mono of 4 SIR are a tough bunch....garang CO and commanders...Originally posted by monoslayer:omg! 4 SIR...... i reserve my comments..
a garang CO does not necessarily mean a capable and well respected CO.Originally posted by Rockhound:current mono of 4 SIR are a tough bunch....garang CO and commanders...
hopefully this bunch is miles better den the previous bunch i encountered with..Originally posted by Rockhound:current mono of 4 SIR are a tough bunch....garang CO and commanders...
One very apparent characteristics is that SAF soldier would be brain Freeze feeling cold wearing thick jacket.....and folks up alaska would be looking at them very strange because it is SUMMER in ALSAKA right now....!Originally posted by Ponders:Those people in Alaska must be wondering why US govt is training with China's troops.
They would think giving chewing gum to SAF soldiers is the best present ever.
And also want to know if the SAF soldiers get public caning.
