Not to flame anyone individual here...........
I was watching the Chinese news for the latest development of the case. I would like to know, is he a PRC turned SG citizen or PR? Bcos his name dun really sound local. If thats the case, this might explain his erratic and audacious behavoir. Many foreigners do not understand the severity and consequences of some actions. For example, going to ORD liao, I believe whatever grieviance or unhappiness can be settled outside after ORD as most ppl won't want to do things to jepordise the ORD. But for foreigners, they may not see this. In other countries, ppls are more willing to let their voices to be heard and do things in a more extreme manner. Example, most have read news before of construction workers killing their counterparts or wounding them due to arguements after a drink or gambling game. Perhaps, fighting or violence is acceptable means to settle problem, so they do not know that it is an offence here. So I think the CPL may belong to this group. I think he is also mentally unstable as the news say when he is caught, he was cool and calm wearing a western suit carry the bag with the rifle.......... -
actually, im more concerned about what that other guy was doing with him at the hotel. was cpl dave trying to sell the gun to him or something? y then would he want to meet him?
if its cos of his gf, wont it seem more logical he go look for his gf? hmmm

7. Any person who consorts with, or is found in the company of, another person who is unlawfully carrying or is in unlawful possession of any arm in circumstances which raise a reasonable presumption that he knew that that other person was carrying or had in his possession or under his control any such arm shall, unless he proves that he had reasonable grounds for believing that that other person was not unlawfully carrying or not in unlawful possession of such arm, be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to the like punishment as that other person with whom he was consorting or in whose company he was found.
means Ong will get same punishment as Teo. sad case. -

3 cases occured in 1977, 1983 and 1985
Of which, the 1983 one was given the death peanalty for murder -

THE army corporal who went missing with a loaded assault rifle over the weekend appeared to have holed up in a Geylang hotel before he was nabbed on Monday night.
Dave Teo Ming, 20, booked a room in Champagne Hotel in Geylang Lorong 16 for four nights - starting last Friday.
It appears that Teo, the first soldier in about 20 years to be charged with stealing his weapon, had company in the hotel.
Also charged yesterday was Ong Boon Jun, an unemployed 21-year-old, who is said to have been in the room with him from 3.45am to 7.30am on Monday.
Teo faces a jail term of between five and 20 years and caning under the Arms Offences Act.
As for Ong, his offence was keeping mum - even though he knew that Teo had an illegal weapon on him.
He faces a jail term of five to 14 years and caning.
In the last reported case in 1986, a 20-year-old full-time national serviceman who stole a rifle, 30 bullets and other military items was jailed five years and given 12 strokes of the cane.
Teo was trained as an infantry rifleman with the 1st Battalion, Singapore Infantry Regiment.
He is said to have fled Mandai Hill Camp on Sunday while on guard duty.
He went missing, along with an SAR-21 assault rifle and and several 5.56mm bullets for the weapon.
A massive islandwide manhunt involving some 200 police officers was launched before Teo was finally arrested at Orchard Cineleisure mall on Monday evening.
Police caught him in a toilet on the mall's third floor. When he was nabbed, he was dressed snappily in a black suit and tie. The loaded rifle was found with him in the toilet.
The Geylang hotel staff said that later on Monday night, police turned up, asking to see the room.
Room 401 was empty save for the remains of two McDonald's breakfast meals and discarded hamburger wrappers.
A Nokia phone charger was plugged into a wall socket.
Yesterday, hotel staff told The Straits Times that Teo had checked into the room in the early hours of the morning.
The room was booked in the name of a Thai woman - although Teo signed for the room keys and paid the $30 per night room rate.
It is believed that the Thai woman, who signed in as 'Kanjama' in the hotel records, has also been picked up by police.
Ms Elsie Tan, 56, the hotel's receptionist, said police also took away footage recorded by the security cameras.
Teo enlisted for national service in September 2005.
When he went absent without official leave, he had only one month to go before completing his NS stint.
Teo, wearing a white polo T-shirt and black shorts, appeared uneasy as his eyes darted around the crowded courtroom yesterday morning.
He spotted several family members in the crowd and they exchanged nods but did not get the opportunity to speak to one another.
Both Teo and Ong are remanded for another week for further investigations.
Also in court yesterday were Teo's paternal grandparents, two cousins and several friends.
They resolutely refused to speak to reporters, and there was a small commotion outside the courts when Teo's male cousin and grandfather lashed out, kicking and pushing at photographers and a television crew.
After Teo's civil case, he will face more disciplinary action, but this time, in a military court.
A Ministry of Defence spokesman told The Straits Times that the Singapore Armed Forces will take 'appropriate disciplinary actions following investigations'.

under these circumstances, not say the parents are in the wrong as i believe any normal parents will not report their own children. -

Frankly wake up from your dream !!! We are just lucky that he got caught before he shoot up someone !!!
If he could have left the camp without the rifle or ammo.... he took it with intention to kill ...... who going to pity the victims ? who pity the folks that have to spend so much time hunting him down ..... Damn waste of tax payer blood money !!!

Did the Police really think that by not notifying the public, Teo would not be in hiding ? Before Teo absconded, he must already pre-empted that he will be hunted. Therefore, he went to some obscure hotel to avoid detection.
The story line would have been very different if he has shot someone before the Police caught him.
I still think that the Police should have warn the public at the earliest opportunity and this may lead to his earlier arrest. Maybe the hotel receptionist would have recognised him and reported to the Police.
How long does the Police want to keep mum if Teo has holed up in the hotel room for the next few days ? -

First thing first, do u understand why there's so much talk around talk here with regards to the incident? The man was carrying a SAR-21 around town. What's his motive for doing it? Why did the SAF allow such incident to happen? What if he had used the gun and hurt not only the gal, but also innocent bystander? He was being irrational in not thinking straight, and quite simply he was blinded by love/hatred to do the thing he did. God knows what he was planning to do. While I pity the guy, the thing is, he had to be punished to serve as deterrant to others. And his punishment will not be light, I can assure you. That is unless he can prove that he was of mental unsound when he carried the rifle out of camp. Even then, he would still be charged under military law. In the end, he ruined himself, the media and us talking about this matter did not. -
then will I kena charge as well? I read on this forum and know this fella got weapon... but I never call 999....
