heard they dun wan to risk shorting the generators cos once they are down the whole of the island will not be operational then CCO have to write long reports.Originally posted by Ponders:BUt it evolved to....
charging handphone take too much electricity.
But then, tekong uses Generator... i dunno how much that will be.
They should more worried that Aircons, or cookhouse cauldrons shorting the generators than handphone chargers.Originally posted by ^tamago^:heard they dun wan to risk shorting the generators cos once they are down the whole of the island will not be operational then CCO have to write long reports.

A few bunk mates and I charged our phones @ bctc, and nth really happened, but a few unfortunate ones @ the other bunk got a blackoutOriginally posted by Ponders:The No charging of handphone policy on Tekong island is quite stupid.
It has lost its purpose as the years gone by.
The ORIGINAL reason for not charging handphone (at any camps) was because of fire hazards.
Back in those days, there are many non-original chargers going around. Some of them are not type-approved.
There was a case in 5SIR where a charger caused a fired and the bunk got burned. No casualty. That was when the standing order was issued to not charge handphones in bunks.
BUt it evolved to....
charging handphone take too much electricity.
Which is so untrue.. since charging handphone is usually in the region of 200-500mA.
let's say a BMTC company of 200 ppl. all of them charging handphones,
500 x 200 = 100amps = 22 kilo Watt
Let say you charge your phone 7 hours. = 22 kilo Watt x 7 = 154 kW/h.
154kW/h at current electricity tariff (residential) $0.19/kWh = $30
Lets say industrial rate (which i dunno) say 3x of residential= $90/night.
But then, tekong uses Generator... i dunno how much that will be.
and my friend bought one like 5-6 years ago.Originally posted by Gordonator:u mean there's such a thing as hand-operated handphone charger?
what if it breaks downOriginally posted by Gordonator:why worry about charging? there's always the public telephone downstairs.
