Which stall is that?
Haven't been there for a few years now. Beyond what I've described, I also remember her side of the floor is quite airy, with public benches around. Most of the other stalls are sited in narrow alleyways.
Most of the prices at Beach Road are more or less the same, lah. They're petty traders, & it's a dying business even more E-Marts was introduced. Their equivalents would be the old-style gift shops (inside army camps or outside the old SBMT at Nee Soon) or the mama shops in the HDB estates. A lot of other retail businesses have also imported stuff that used to could only buy there, like prickly-heat powder, ziplog bags, camping items & waterproofed gear.
Sidetracking: The chilli noodles on the first floor is famous too, though they've increasingly cooked it prawn-mee style over the years. If you can persuade the owner to sell you his special chilli ($3 in a container), mix some with shreads of fried taupok before adding to the regular tah mee & you've got the original stuff. The version I grew up on anyway. The original hawker used to ply his pushcart nearby in Kampong Glam, in front of the Chong Cheng School (hence the Chinese name for his noodles). Boy, I'm hungry now as I type .... ~lol~
