the workin hours? the bookout day? what the activities? and anymore stuffs tt u guys can tink of. thk in advance! -

Support side is mostly normal office hours unless attached to training unit. Some place stay-out, others only book out on weekends and night off everyday...

My one is a stay-in unit, Armour Training Insitute. It is a waste of time honestly. After working hours you either stay in the office to finish up your task or use I-Net if not stay in the bunk or at the enlistee mess to watch TV and that's all you can do.
If you guys got posting after your BMT or re-vocation and got posted to Sungei Gedong camp than good luck to you!

for me, BRT was the time i cowered in fear from the instructors.
Unit life, I became friends with all the instructors, after I got my rank, but I cowered in fear from the unit OC and DY. -

Combat life is simpler, particularly if posted to the company line. The unit will be training for REDCON status (twice during NS, & also every reservist ICT in the future), so the field training is usually structured around passing the proficiency tests -- first at the company & then the battalion level. They'll take a few months to achieve, or kena re-test. Thereafter, the unit becomes ops-ready & will rotate with other active units to do weekly standby. There are also chances to go overseas, or train locally alongside other foreign armed forces. Sometimes a unit gets arrowed to do other non-military stuff too, like NDP or blind-clearance in the Live Firing Area.
Some BMT activities like IPPT, SOC, ATF (range shooting), BCCT (if applicable), guard duty, area cleaning etc. will continue with the unit. But no more stand-by-beds, unless it's a tekan session. IMO You can really become self-independent in unit life, in everything from buying a pail to do your own laundry (instead of bringing home ala BMT); to bartering with your Encik on when best to clear your off-in-lieus; to booking out regularly during nights-off to "wind down" (so much so I didn't mind burning holidays or Saturdays -- but not Sundays -- doing guard duty).
If you're with a frontline unit, you'd better get along with your buddies too. As I told my old mono-intake batch, most of you guys are going to be together for the next 10-plus years including reservist -- unless you're posted out due to studies (NS-disruption or reposting to IHL unit), medical downgrading (only the most serious cases) or overseas-based work (reservist deferment or holding list). So get used to each other. -

Me was like booking out almost every night to buy supper or call someone to buy if too tired to go out...

i like to high light that BMT is a phase that u go thru during NS so it is not a "Life" as u can't go thru the entire NS being a recruit get my Gsss?

My BMT schedule was screwed up and burnt many weekends but somehow I didn't feel as sian as I do in unit now. Furthermore I'm now a non-combatant...

I left out mob manning, which was always nervy even though we only did it on weekends in NS. Standby duty, I should also add, was done at the COY (or equivalent) level. But the unit can usually see the assignment rotate back to it in every 3 weeks or so, hence regular internal preparation (like T-loaning each other stuff to meet the logistics SOP).
I dunno whether it's changed through the years, but one big difference between unit & BMT life was that recruits in my time weren't allowed to see the training programme (& were too sotong to ask) They just lived day-to-day, as a result.
But, at the unit, a fortnight's (sometimes up to a month's) timetable was usually displayed on the notice board, prompting many to consult it to see if they could bend the system their way. Usually cannot "siam" important activities like SOC & field EX, but chao kengers could try to see about scheduling medical appointments on less-important mornings, while the aquaphobic would plan to volunteer for guard duty instead of going for swimming, etc. For the others, they would just check when the nights-off were or whether they could apply for a long weekend, etc. -

for me, bmt life was much better and exciting, esp when the day i POP, it felt good, considering i done most of the requirements in BMT .I.E field camp and 24km grenade, range etc. unit life was fuked up, fuked by CSM for turn out, almost every day kena screwed upside down. thanks to not makiing into command school coz of injury.
in bmt , you feel more energised. in unit, your morale is low. fuking low.
bmt life, bo nights off. unit life got nites off.
bmt life got good tok cock sgts and pc. unit life you have commanders who act as if they are damn big shot. they want respect. there's not much friendliness. there exists only a kind of relationship: commander-man relationship. you're their man, not their colleague.
bmt life, better food i guess compared to my previous camp. better food as of this year Jan to Mar. now i don't know.
bmt life vs unit life -[ Combat - Service]
basically service life is slack, without mentioning the frequency of regimental duties you have to cover. other than that, its still okay. life will get kinda boring. if you are a storeman, life is sianz. if ure a clerk, life is full of paper work. and yes, office politics come into play. if you're attached to a combatant unit and stay in, thats it. your life is also damn boring. ok, at least you get to watch those combatants chiong sua.
also, in service, those higher ranks than you will be closer. the relationship becoms slightly better. life's more tolerable.
you might think that your bmt days were quite fun, and you may savour some moments of bmt, be it xiong, stupid, tiring etc.
you spend the rest of yr NSF liability in service, basically 8-5. great isnt? make best use of the time, don't waste. not everyone is as "lucky" as youm , remember.
as the saying goes " its mind over matter, if you don't mind, it doesn't matter" . life goes on. something you gotta forward to. ORD date.
