but there r different types of farmers as well. -

dun apply to be a pilot cos it's cool or the $$ is gd etc...
do it cos u like flying.
but i tell u.. the feeling really rocks.
the carefree feeling of flying, unlike driving, there's no traffic lights, no speed cameras, no pple high beaming u etc.. lol...
oh yah... if possible, join the youth flying club for some experience of flying in a small plane.
if u tink u can enjoy the comforts of a boeing 747 in ur small aircraft, u have to wake up ur idea 1st.
the take-off, landing, banking, ascending etc.... all very different from a commercial aircraft where comfort is a priority, not in military though.

when i say start from scratch, u really start from scratch, as in a CADET pilot again(OCT). So dont think if you are some big shot LTC, transitioning over to commercial aviation can throw his "previous" experience around.
FYI, single engine hours (F-16s included) are NOT fully recognised in commercial terms.
You also dont get to choose when to leave...... like father's airforce....... just before your 12th yr, RSAF offer you promotion to MAJ........ if you indicate u r leaving, rank may not be given to you. And you mention leave after 2nd contract. At 45yrs old, commercial airline may or may not take you in. if accepted, you join your 25yr old coursemates and start all over again....... believe me, its a humbling experience..
As Rockstar had said, you want more info on RSAF, go CMPB ask from horses' mouth. You want info on commercial aviation, go to the official websites.
Both military and commercial flying have its difficulties...... both have dropout rates..... both have its pluses n minuses................. its what you want and how you want to live your life.

i'm suggesting AGAIN you go to CMPB to find out the information before making a decision. the 10 year bond, do not include the time spent in UNIVERSITY if you are going for your studies after you attain your CAT status. thus, you will not be 28 years old at end of contract 1.
The 2nd contract can end before 45yrs old, eg 42 yrs old with the remaining 3 years where you serve out as staff officer/non flying pilot in the RSAF.
