R&R can be exciting for first timers. They will bring you to see the caves, the old gold mines, the Heritage Centre etc. And then a few hours of shopping and makan.
Anyway, Rockhampton is rather small and only a few places to shop. Hope your R&R dun fall on a Monday night. Most pubs are closed.
The restaurants there serve very good steak but expensive.

ya. some regulars my time wanted to go to the strip clubs. but suay for them - closed on that day. 2 days 1 nite. brought us to 3 shopping malls, and a natural limestone cave.
the reservists and nsf will stay at various motels. i stayed at this David Motel. the regulars will stay at the local university college campus hall. lunch and dinner for all will be at the college canteen.

best buy is the health supplements such as primrose oil, salmon fish oil... u save a lot even u buy the blackmores' 400capsule family pack. sg version only have at most 200capsule pack and it costing more ex than the 400capsules one even after currency conversion.. since AUS manufactures them, so cheaper. -
Be sure to check out the type of taxis in town when you guys are on RNR. I wish they had such vehicles back home.

When I was there in 2005, the situation was rather tense due to the Nguyen Tuong Van drug trafficking case. During the R&R, when we are walking along the streets, we are subjected to jeering and booing by passing cars who buzz at us with hostile horning.
Not sure whether bcos of this case, SAF decided to plan this R&R so boring and low profile that we dun really enjoy much. -
For those people going this year, hope you guys enjoy yourselves. I will be there 1st to 14th Nov.
Dun drink too much milk during training.........your body will not get use to it. Toilets out in the field are not comfortable. Drink plenty of H2O.
