i not too sure abt the petrol part, most SAF GP cars petrol all paid for by the goverment, so don't know if its free or must pay. most SAF personnels that drive will have a fleet card (don't know if now still have) quite good discounts if my memory doesn't fail me. -

the best is still the office next door (long time back) the officers all super scale. drawning dam big money. but all nice people.
up up there, they tend to me more understanding, use to know one COL, the want to have meetings with his NSmen, don't ask them to come to his camp, but book a meeting room in CMPB so its easier for them.
Anyway... nuff said, private housing not really that expensive now a days, a decent 5 room flat cost the same as a small condo, its up to you which you perfer, space or facilites.

I have actual info on this.
Brigade Commanders holding minimum of LTC ranks are entitled to the white proton or Fords.
Mercedes E-class are provided for Chief of Army, Air Force, Navy and CDF.
White Audis are provided for BG ranks holding equivalent appointments to commanders/dept chiefs.
the Audis were open-tendered and were cheaper than Jap 2000cc cars...supposedly for marketing purpose, they gave away at throwaway price so MINDEF took them.
These cars can be used for personal trips, but I think gotta pay mileage, but they cannot ferry their family and friends in them, so most of them keep their own private cars too..
I know the 189 MID's officer...my ex-commander. He has his own private car also.
MINDEF "strongly encourage" them to use these cars even if they have their own, to show their "presence" to their men. -

Yes, that's in a way true, but you first build your reputation on your character and personality first, then the car becomes a symbol of it. And it works. When I was serving NS, we used to look out for the car of my CSM. If it's there, we do our work. If not there, we relax. Sheesh...their answers so standard one siah. I think to effectively resolve the problem...all COs and COL. and above should buy their own cars. SAF...maintain a motorpool of such "marquee" cars, and they must be obscene in nature, such as baring a miniature SAF flag on the front of the hood, together with a changable rank plate, stating the rank of the officer the car is assigned to. On top of that, so as to give formation chiefs, service chiefs and CDFs more face, they will be entitled cars such as BMW or Mercedes permanently assigned to them throughout their appointment, with the option to purchase them after their term in office.
And for farks sake...why PROTON?!!! If I were a COL, I would not be caught dead in that car, lest I'm knocked out and stuffed in the boot. Whats wrong with cars like a Hyundai Sonata which is much more presentable than a farking proton?!!! Wanna save money and give commanding presence...all go buy Chery QQ or Geely lah, den get ST to zhng with antenna all over and mount 2xGPMG on top..knn...PROTON...WTF MAN! -

yeh....i remember when i was an NSF....we would bio the perm staff carpark see whether our boss has arrived for work while on our way back from canteen break.....sometimes....if he leaves camp at around 3pm for his usual NDP meeting and his yellow car is not parked at his designated spot...we will know tt it is the end of anothe day of work...some of us will expire till 5pm while others will go to the gym....but wth...when we got to know him better, we did all these things even when he's in office....HAHA....but we make sure we do not screw him when real work came....and he pushes ppl real hard too...there's no such thing as leaving for the weekends at 5pm sharp on a friday afternoon when exercises came...but when ATEC ends... i remember the whole office seems like a playground.....
