M113 (ULTRA) 40/50

I am supposed to drive this vehicles.
I have some question to ask as i am newbie on this vehicles.
-Is this a Tank or something like a vehicles that carry people ?
-Is the interior really so hot that driver like me will get heat-stroke?
-Is is true that is will topple over very easy when traveling in uneven ground?
-Is the the most lousy vehicles left in SAF?
-Is the Maintenance very troublesome?

Well...not a Tank, but a Armoured Personal Carrier (APC),interior is not that hot if you're moving and no...its not easy to topple over unless you're recles.. And lastly...no...its no the WORST vehicle in SAF. -

unless the uneven ground(slope) is greater than 60% front
or 30% side

Thank you if u have any answer to those question Yes, the interior is so fricking hot, no wonder they call it a matchbox. Anything that travels over uneven ground has a chance to topple. You could say its the last of what saf has to offer. Maintenance is always troublesome for whatever is left last to offer. -
for M113 i know nuts, for BX..well...there is a stack of canvas wall folded hidden at sides of the IFV...just before u enter the water the canvas is being unfolded and propped up into postion using wooden poles(not that sure now...knowledge being thrown back to SAF) to hold up the canvas to prevent them from going down back into vehicle...once that is done u wear ya floating suit and enjoy the ride on water......and dun forget u definitely will get to use the floating suit one..dun worry...Originally posted by wonderamazement:Care to share some here?

for Ultra, total different story... only need to install a splash screen to protect the radiator, trim vane must be out
engine oil topped up coz floatation uses pivot steering which consume alot of engine oil
base plate must be fully secured.

the positive side is that this vehicle has some good weapons.
40/50 meaning a 40mm Automatic Grende Launcher and a 0.50-inch Heavy Machine Gun.
Unless you meet an enemy slow Russian tank or a Singapore-BX-gone-Crazy, your ULTRA should be the most powerful fighting vehicle in the region.
Its old, but metal is still metal, they do not degrade...but upgraded with very advanced weapons.
After you're in armour awhile, they will tell you how protected you are in a real war....i can't tell u more.... -

Its not so bad as you think...As what others say, it will have add-on kit......Besides, armoured vehicle will travel in vegetation as much as possible and in vegetation, how are you going to shoot a RPG..........
Ultra 40/50-----> Men's heaven, alot of compartment
Ultra OWS------> Men's hell, very pack..So men appoint to OWS have some height differences....
If you think that driver AFV will be very hot, then when you see you section mate dismount and walking across you periscope...then u will think that you are quite fortunate.....Most of the time, the vehicle itself will get heat stroke faster than you......
As for maintenance, you will die~~~~~Ultra is more on driver and VC hands-on maintenance unlike the BX.........
Ultra driver...gd luck yo you........alot of sai kang to do....you will "LOVE" you tech squad very "MUCH"...... -

Hahaha. I'm unlicensed, but can contribute cuz informally "inducted" before.
Most of all, better be prepared to drive with (two) joysticks & pedals/levers.
Cannot slouch too cuz the feeling will always be like looking out of a "manhole", while sitting on an elevated stool with a tiny backrest. You'll get to wear a special helmet too (radio-connected to your commander's in the seat behind) except it's not very durable (can crack if it hits the armoured ring of the driver's hole, but then better that than your own head).
I bet too that once you're more old-bird, you'll just sleep/nap sitting there in between deployments, in your helmet & it leaning on the ring. The better news shall be that, with more troops in your detachment than, say, the tanks & their smaller crew, they'll voluntarily exclude you from night watch/OP duty in order for you to obtain enough rest. (Better that than kena accident due to lack of sleep.)
Tactically (with the driver hatch down), you'll learn to drive periscope-style too. Imagine doing it at night, downhill on a steep slope! Also got chance to drive the M113 into the sea to test its floatation, but don't worry, will be open-hatch & wearing life-jacket plus only after a preparation test at the camp's "swimming" pool.
Sungei Gedong shall be your playground. All the SAR units, along with 21 SA (my old outfit) train there, though in my time the units were based in other camps elsewhere unlike now. The civilians living in the southwest used to call us "ang sua" troops, cuz our vehicles were always thickly caked in either red dust or red mud, massively dirtying the roads whenever we convoyed back. That's Sungei Gedong soil for ya; be ready to do a lot of maintainence even though the units are housed at its doorstep now. At least most everyone will help out in the cleanups, usually designated half a day on the training programmes. -
