The ability of the M113 to float is public domain information.Originally posted by Chemineer72:Details regarding operation (especially, flotation) and maintenance of armoured vehicles should not be revealed in a forum.
its all in fas i tell u.....Originally posted by LazerLordz:The ability of the M113 to float is public domain information.
The ability of the M113 to float is public domain information. He was referring to operations but the only relevant thing anyone mentioned about this so far is just two words: "river crossing."
tats rightOriginally posted by ditzy:If the enemy was on the far side of the river and they see a bx being set up to come get them, they'll laugh to death first.
woot, i was from 46 tooOriginally posted by MGGUN:If you are posted to Sungei Gedong, you must be very fortunate. The SAR play ground just behide you and everyday you can hear some other unit vehicle firing blank........I was from 46SAR.......
Floating is very exciting especially when you see the water leaking through the ramp......haha~~~
last i recalled there is no badge to be earned. beret is back since you're in the armour formation.Originally posted by Jp1:For M133(Ultra) 40/50 driver, i am consider as what division ??
And what badges will i get... beret is black rite haha?
for active units, only 40 n 46 SAR are Ultra ABGOriginally posted by Jp1:For M133(Ultra) 40/50 driver, i am consider as what division ??

If you are posted to Sungei Gedong, you must be very fortunate. The SAR play ground just behide you and everyday you can hear some other unit vehicle firing blankToo bad nearby LCK & Sarimbun kena cleared land or redevelopment. Last time, the whole area was already ulu but at least still have remnants of the old riverline settlement (& the mismatched HDB flats at Neo Tiew, of course). Many a M113 used to convertly "nudge" the fruit trees in the abandoned orchards there! Dunno if it's still done now, but my unit used to rumble into the LCK & CCK cemeteries to stay for the night too. Talk about waking up the dead! Worse yet, must do OP the whole night on the lonely paths facing into the graveyard ~lol~
or active units, only 40 n 46 SAR are Ultra ABGThe Armour units form their own brigades (8 SAB, 54 SAB, 56 SAB), & that's probably the highest level NSFs will identify with at most, if at all. Everyone in the formation wear black berets, for a start. You'll be conscious about the DIV structure only upon entering reservist, or was posted to HQ Formation or something.
both are under the 3rd division.
Is it true that people have to use shovels to remove the crews' remains if the APC's armour is penetrated?Humour aside, I've seen first-hand how surprisingly flimsy the M113 armor was during the mid-80s -- dunno if they've upgraded it since. One of my BTY detachments was wiped out (1 dead, 4 casualties, only the driver unhurt) due to a M203 round which the dead guy supposedly found & concealed after a live-firing EX. The damage to the vehicle -- it'd accidentally detonated from inside -- was quite devastating.
u're not from armour right?Right back at ya. As someone already posted, a M113 chassis remains aluminum armor. (Even for the new SSPH1 Primus, as far as I know.) I'm not saying a M203 round has tank-piercing capability but, all the same, it was enlightening to discover its TNT can penetrate a M113's "skin." Who needs a LAW gunner anymore as long as there's a open hatch you can shoot a grenade into? ~lol~
If u're from an ULTRA or BX unit, u'll know there's something more....that vehicle by itself is thinly armoured, can only protect up to 7.62 rounds.
It is true that the flotation capability of M113 or its variant is well-known. However, I think the SAF has not revealed how a BX is prepared to cross a river. I would think that procedures or preparation necessary for a river-crossing ops is not public information. I am not sure if SAF has ever demonstrated how a BX is prepared for water ops for the public.Originally posted by LazerLordz:The ability of the M113 to float is public domain information.
While the SAF has not displayed the capability of the BX to ford rivers in the public...and it should stay that way.Originally posted by Chemineer72:It is true that the flotation capability of M113 or its variant is well-known. Water-body crossing and how capable the SAF armoured vehicles are able to do it in terms of preparation time and effort are tactically important information for a terrain that is dotted with many streams and rivers. More so, when a heavy downpour will turn a creek into a river.
We're all so glad it hasn't. Really hope it stays that way.Originally posted by LazerLordz:While the SAF has not displayed the capability of the BX to ford rivers in the public...and it should stay that way.
Throughout my liability in SAF, esp Armour, I had did no more than 5 floatations on M113/Ultra, and only in trainings and not exercise. The preparation of floatation will probably take you few days bcos of this.Originally posted by Chemineer72:It is true that the flotation capability of M113 or its variant is well-known.
