Mentality?

  What kind of mentality do you bring into NS? I understand many are reluctant and all.
  
  For me, I'll be enlisting in less than a month. And I actually look forward to it - I see it as some form of long vacation; some form of escapism from reality. Not have to worry about the future, university and all. (Just put on the uniform and not get into trouble)
  
  So guys, share whatever is going through your head prior to enlistment? Or if you've ORD lo! Share with us your side of story too

  i entered when i was only 17 (early enlistee) and yes i volunteer. prior to enlisting, no matter wat i hear from ppl, i've always held a positive mindset and my NS life was so much better. and after 6 years, i still think its a valuable experience and something that build my character well.

  Anyway, I was similar to you. After 2 years of academic stress in JC, I was actually positive towards NS. I thought it would be a refreshing change from the past 12 years of schooling life...even wanted to enter SISPEC/OCS...
  
  You're right in that it's escapism from reality...just that you'll (probably) find yourself lamenting (as I have) that reality is oh so much better than being in the SAF...
  
  I feel pretty sad and even envious when I see my girlfriend (J2 this year) leading a full time JC student's life, even when she's majorly stressing out over her upcoming A Levels...
