This is what i found frm the website:
I am a Pre-enlistee. I would like to extend my International passport. Do I need to apply for an exit permit first?
You may extend your passport without having to apply for an exit permit. However, you are required to apply for an exit permit if your overseas trip is more than 3 months.
If your passport has already been extended up to 10 years from the date of issue or 5 years for passports issued on and after 1 Apr 2005, you are required to proceed to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) to apply for a new passport
I would like to ask something veri impt. I am a pre-enlistee and i am going overseas next month for about 8 days. My passport was issued on May 2000 and it expired and i got it extended on last year Dec 2006.The validity of my passport is therefore extended to May 2010 and that is also the date of expiry. In other words, i took a new picture for the passport and extended it both on Dec 2006. So do i haf to apply for a new passport?? -
A passport is only valid for 10 years from the date of issue... if you want go overseas within the last 6 months of expiry, you would need a new one.
Cos your passport need a minimum period of at least 6 months if you want to travel out of Singapore...

If your passport is valid (ie. have more than 6 months from the date of your trip), why will Immigration allow you to have another passport ?
Can 1 person hold 2 Singapore Passports ? So, he can sell one away ? No.
The system seems fine. Valid passport, less than 3 months travel, no need to complicate matters. -
Wun it be easier and faster if you just call the hot line and get your questions answered instead of asking people here who can only give half-baked answers?

i haf extended my passport last year Dec till May 2010. and my passport issue date is May 2000. i also got a new picture. does tt mean i haf to apply new passport? -

the sentence means a passport shell life is extendable up to 10 years from date of issue. ONLY THEN, (may 2010) WILL YOU NEED TO APPLY FOR A NEW ONE.
isn't it the same logic as:
i bought a cinema ticket to watch a movie. half way i go toliet. now question: so do i still need to go to the counter to buy the same showtime slot ticket or not? but even though i still have the current cinema ticket (which is still valid since the movie is still showing)in my pocket? -
Go and get your new biometric passport done and your question will not be relevant anymore.

BUT GO!! You CAN go overseas for EIGHT days with your current passport!!

fine... if u want to waste $60 to make a new passport. go ahead. then ur current passport (which is still valid till may 2010) is as good as making a loss passort report at the police station.
i interpret for u the sentence once more ok.... using this:
singapore passport shelf life = 10 years from date of ISSUE. e.g. june 2005.
say if the date of expiry is dec 2007, u go ICA to chop and stamp the maximun date of 10 years. june 2005 + 10 years = june 2015.
ONLY UNTIL JUNE 2015, THEN WILL U NEED TO APPLY FOR A NEW PASSPORT.
AND IF U STILL INSIST ON GETTING A NEW PASSPORT.... ALL OF US GOT NOTHING TO SAY LIAO... LIKE AS IF U LIKE TO SPEND MONEY LIKE WATER, LIKE TO ANYHOW SUKAR SUKAR GIVE DONATION MONEY TO GOVERNMENT.
