back in those days...
it was a simple webbing, m16, field pack and 7 items.. the soldier can go to war.
then new items came... eventually soldiers look like c*ck.
eg.
"pregnant soldiers", one field pack for his items, one field back carried infront of him for signal set.
"mardi gras soldier", navex soldiers, with necklaces, 1 for compass, 1 for map, 1 for china graph, 1 for protractor.
"turtle soldier", 2 litres of water ain't enough, so a $35 waterbag is added ontop of field pack.
so the next equipment evolution evaluation, they just decided, LBC with chest pockets, duffel bag with wheels, and BIG field pack, and an admin bag...
now they are thinking of things to fill the empty space up. -

Well... I would want to wear the armour actually.
As ordinary soldiers you haven't seen much "intense" stuff I believe. I think the commandos can elaborate on the intensity of their urban training (This is a guess, because I have not seen their training).
Howeverm ranger course style, it is something as intense as the movie "Black Hawk Down". -
In designing all these stuff, I think they forgot one thing...
The soldiers would prefer mobility and ability to move fast and preserve energy levels....such loads will consume their energy and fatigue will set in much earlier. -

Its not just about being skinny. We have on the whole a very unfit army. And we are talking about combat troops here! Add to that the climate and I think this really needs to be managed carefully.

Part & parcel of frontline gear, actually, as long as we're a conventional force. If you read back the old war histories, it's the OTHER personal equipment which the troops learn to discard. Even to the extent of going spartan in vest & slacks plus flak jacket, if you look at some pictures of the military contractors in Iraq.
IMO The majority of troops -- of any armed forces -- will realistically only wear the basic vest as body armor. The neck/shoulder & groin protection in the pix look impractical, unless someone come up with a revolutionary design & material.it was a simple webbing, m16, field pack and 7 items.. the soldier can go to war.
We're not trained to fight like Viet Cong guerrillas, if that's what you mean. Neither shall the majority of troops do covert ops, like the CDOs. -
If recruits are issued body armour, PTP needs to be extended to 8 weeks.

To those who wonder abt whether BA will affect soldiers adversely-It's all in the conditioning. How they go about conditioning troops is a different story. But trust me, they wouldn't implement it if they didn't test it thoroughly. -

Green men fighting in jungle is what we dont see in mordern warfare. Everywhere we see is blocks of concrete.
A greyish yellow-brown uniform might be more feasible, i feel. -

Are body armour, especially those class III+ ones, comfortable to wear?
If the whole weight (5-7kg) of the armour is well distributed over the shoulders, waist, hips, etc, then I think soldiers can get used to it.

I would rather the ACU, it blends better with concrete. But I feel in urban situation, there is a lesser need for camou. Since even hiding behind corners can allow snipers to sniper you.
