Number 4 with LBV with Body Armour in MOPP 4 suit. with 940 Signal Set, SAR 21 and 8 mags, 2 grenades, 1 smoke, 1 Gore Tex Jacket, 3 x 24hrs ration, 4 litres water (LBV + bottle), helmet and NVG,
The soldiers would prefer mobility and ability to move fast and preserve energy levels....such loads will consume their energy and fatigue will set in much earlier.Part & parcel of frontline gear, actually, as long as we're a conventional force. If you read back the old war histories, it's the OTHER personal equipment which the troops learn to discard. Even to the extent of going spartan in vest & slacks plus flak jacket, if you look at some pictures of the military contractors in Iraq.
it was a simple webbing, m16, field pack and 7 items.. the soldier can go to war. We're not trained to fight like Viet Cong guerrillas, if that's what you mean. Neither shall the majority of troops do covert ops, like the CDOs.
Maybe the camo will change too. I think jungle camo is not realistic at all.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Maybe everyone just has to accept that the SAF as you all knew it to be, will change dramatically over the next few years?
Mechanisation, moving away from jungle warfare, heavier individual firepower etc...
Do what MRF and CBRE troops doOriginally posted by Hellraiza:the one in the pic shown is israeli-made.
wonder why they wanna change it?
Lazerlordz-yeah. 3G transformation is moving full speed ahead.
To those who wonder abt whether BA will affect soldiers adversely-It's all in the conditioning. How they go about conditioning troops is a different story. But trust me, they wouldn't implement it if they didn't test it thoroughly.
Guess that explains the big group of MRF guys reporting sick at NSMCOriginally posted by Rockhound:Do what MRF and CBRE troops do
wear personal equipment every day

I presume the NSmen would also be wearing these for reservists too?Originally posted by mhcampboy:What fatum said is right...
how is the average skinny SAF beng going to be able to wear that and fight ? ...
Heard a lot of rumours of a change in camo. In any case, we've already had the tiger-stripe desert BDUs for the guys in Afghanistan..Originally posted by vIn.Warrior:Maybe the camo will change too. I think jungle camo is not realistic at all.
Green men fighting in jungle is what we dont see in mordern warfare. Everywhere we see is blocks of concrete.
A greyish yellow-brown uniform might be more feasible, i feel.
I would rather the ACU, it blends better with concrete. But I feel in urban situation, there is a lesser need for camou. Since even hiding behind corners can allow snipers to sniper you. Any 3rd div guys care to give there two cents worth?Originally posted by LazerLordz:Heard a lot of rumours of a change in camo. The ACU as it is is too grey. I think there should be some brown mixed into it.Originally posted by ouchtthurt:I would rather the ACU, it blends better with concrete.
