Sec 3 Subjects Requirement for Army Careers

Are there any specific subjects that you need to choose during your Sec 2 streaming so that you are eligible for a job in the army?

MrJacky, are you in Sec. 3 now or you have a kid in Sec. 3?
Basically whatever the army needs you to learn, is not found in things at the Secondary School level. So its abit irrelevant.
Officers
To be a combatant officer a Polytechnic diploma of any discipline or an 'A' level certificate plus you must be combat fit, and you meet the situational test requirements at BMT, then you'll be selected to be an officer.
Officers who qualify for university education, will also disrupt mid-career after they get their Lieutenant rank to continue with their degree. Nowadays to be a high-flying officer and reach Lieutenant-Colonel and above, you probably need a degree. Unless you're super super good officer.
Nerds don't qualify as officers
Contrary to popular believe, the army does not just look at paper.
I've seen scholars with straight A, combat fit, but they are nerds. They signed their letter of intent, but at the end of BMT, they were deemed unsuitable to be an officer, because of their lack of leadership skills or the skills to be adaptable to situations. SAF officers are more than just nerds.
SpecialistTo be a specialist (a sergeant to warrant officer) rank, you need a minimum of 'O' levels, although most specialists nowadays are Poly Dip holders. For specialists, as long you're combat fit and have 'O' levels, automatic acceptance.
Specific vocations
Unless you're aiming for special vocations, such as you really want to rise up to be the TOP engineer for Singapore armour, or the TOP engineer for Chemical warfare....then of course you may need a degree or diploma in that, which will mean you need to have the relevant subjects at 'O' level to qualify for those subjects later on.
Or if you wish to be an engineer in the airforce or navy, you definitely need physics at 'O' level to take Electrical, Electronics, etc. disciplines of engineering later on in tertiary education, in order to qualify as an Engineering Officer. -
Why would someone want to sign on to the army when many specialists that i know in there are now just waiting for the day they can finally quit and get their lump sum. I've even known many specs who just quit as soon as they can which is 5 yrs i think and forgo their lump sum.
For officers i am unsure as i don't know many officers but the army is no longer a metal rice bowl like it used to be. Now they also have their requirements and for many specs and officers, its hard for them to continue on after their first contract, PB1 for specs, officers i don't know.
If you really want to consider the army career for some reason, do really consider all your options and whether you really like the sort of discipline and regimental lifestyle. Before asking what is required for you to study, you might have to decide what vocation you want to take in army before deciding on your course as the army is a big organisation and people of different skills are required for different vocations. -

A1 for CCA, leadership must have damn a lot? Join scouts instead of NCC? The skills learnt in scouting will help you a lot a lot in whatever you do even as a recruit. Correct me if im wrong please.

Nothing much in Secondary School has any impact, unless you're in a top school and are mapped to be a scholar.

Doesn't matter yet. O or N Levels are only a basic cert, whereas a SAF contract requires a higher educational background (degree, diploma, A Levels, Nitec). Your Sec 2 streaming can dictate your future job-career path, but only indirectly for now. Can always switch later if you're good enough. But if you're poor in academics but is very hands-on & wants to sign on, then you should keep an eye out for which ITE technical courses are suitable for the SAF & opt for that route. Used to have the SAF Boys School for these latter folks, but it's been shut down in favor of the ITE sponsorship/bond arrangement instead.

Malay Language to give commands
NAFA pass to enable u to be fit
Maths so u are able to count how many ppl are there in ur squad
physics, so u noe a bridge is needed to cross a river
chemistry, so u noe u need a fire to boil water
biology, so u know ur blood is red, lose too much will die
history, so u noe where got the ahem ahem
geography, so u noe when it rains, dun go run mountains
Food n Nutrition, so u noe u r eating nutritious food
Design n Tech, so u noe how 2 build a wooden toy to play if bored
Home Economics, if ur briefs got 1 hole, u noe how 2 sew.
