Yes there are new vehicles to replace all the old land rovers in the army starting from the oldest 30 series but within the next few years all of them will be replaced.
Haven't really seen the mechanics of the new vehicle but from a mechanic point of view, its unlikely to be as good as the old land rover. My first impression of it from a distance was its not suited for outfield. Don't know why but just feel like that. -

It is autotransmission and aircon. Drivers will be happier since its more comfort and easier to drive but maintainance side its more problematic for us. Most of us feels that there is no vehicle that can be as good and rugged as the old land rover.

I don't think the Explorer is the right vehicle to replace the LR.
There are many roles that the LR has now, that the Explorer can't do properly. E.g Signal LR, space for entry and exit will be limited for the Ford. I don't suppose they have a customised rear hatch? -

The Ford Explorer is made in Philippines..

It's the Ford EVEREST and not Explorer.. Big difference between these two. I believe it should be assembled in Thailand. It has an engine capacity of 2.5L with a 4 speed automatic transmission. Speed limit is still at 50km/h so in fact it has a greater possibility of the driver falling asleep while driving especially when it comes with air conditioning, automatic transmission, comfortable pvc seats and no radio set.

i once saw a land rover discovery with MID plates! registered with the LR 110 FFR range.. 33xxx MID. looks very very new.

hmm.. i dun think this is a good replacement too.. while the everest definitely has the edge in having a more powerful engine, can the interior stand up to the usual abuse taken by the landrover? just imagine jerry cans and wadever stuff being dragged across the boot floor.. the landrover's interior is washable too.. i doubt that the everest's interior can be washed..

Let's see how the active units improvised with its limitations. They'll be okay as commander or trainer vehicles, for sure. But Arty, for example, also used the utility Land Rovers as combat ORVs & battlefield taxis, meaning we'd regularly cramped 6 soldiers sitting in the back &, until it was disallowed, 3 more troopers (usually officers & regulars) standing on the tailboard!
This, over & above the mounted signal sets & batteries, plus personal equipment like fullpacks & rifles. For standbys, the SOP is to load up set items like changuls, ammo & petrol cans too! How are they all going to fit inside a SUV, with its seating configuration & small cargo compartment? Tie everything to the rooftop? ~lol~ Where goes the camouflage net, then? -

frm a ord-ed combat medic's pt of view, we cannot evacuate casualties on stretcher n load em up the LR like we used to do. if safety rover is out, it wil be troublesome.....cz 4 outfield missions, units cant possibly indent ambulances as safety vehicles.. cz ambulances r in short suplly n only based at medical centres.Originally posted by Ashearo:I am not sure yet.
