Not 100% sure but this is my guess.Originally posted by Ashearo:Hi i am a transport supervisor (will be posted to unit next week). I am still serving NS (1 year to ORD) but i have some questions to ask, because i have already made my future plans and i will like to know how reservist will affect it. I am currently PES A but i have a knee condition and docs are still trying to treat it.
1) I am going to NUS for undergrad studies after this. Will i get called back for reservist?
2) Also, after i graduate from NUS Faculty of Dentistry, i have a 4-year bond with the Ministry of Health that i have to serve. Will SAF call me back for reservist if I have to serve a government bond?
3) After i finish serving my bond, i plan to move overseas and work overseas. Will the SAF call me back for reservist? And if SAF does call me back, and i cannot come back due to work, what happens?
Thanks in advance.
1) yes, all 3 unis liaise with saf for u to be called up during ur semester vacation break, if u r called up for ict. but for mob ops manning usually lasting 1 week, if u r on its nominal roll call list, anytime one... normally is on weekend where the recall unit codeword is flashing on the tv. ippt still need to take, unless u downgrade...Originally posted by Ashearo:Hi i am a transport supervisor (will be posted to unit next week). u will get called up during the vacation period. unless u directly liaise with the reservist unit s1 branch to explain ur dentistry programme to deter training, no escape 1...Originally posted by Ashearo:1. I know i have to take the annual IPPT. But i thought full time students at NUS NTU SMU will not get called up for reservist. Some degrees (like mine) do not have long holidays, only 1 month holidays, and due to the huge load of studies, these holidays are used for projects and studies.
Thanks =)
Anyway, i hope that i wont be posted to 1st transport battalion itself. Other units are fine

yes to vacation period ict schedule planning for govt. uni students.Originally posted by Ashearo:Also, all these apply to everyone regardless of vocation? Same for service side and combat side?
Just pray hard they don't purposely choose that 1 month holiday then SAF will not care what you are going to do during that holiday. Not sure about NUS but NTU has specifically stated that if we have ICT during holidays, we are not allowed to apply for intersem studies etc and must attend ICT...Originally posted by Ashearo:1. Normally, you won't be called up for IPPT or ICT if you are in Uni, save for vacation periods. There are many ways to cover those.Originally posted by Ashearo:1. MOCC - Medical Officers' Conversion Course. I'm not sure if DOs are under MOCC or they have a separate one.Originally posted by Ashearo:I am not in 1 TPT BN yet. I dont hope to go there actually But wont it be weird if i get called back to be a dental officer during reservist? I mean im now only a spec. Need to go thru OCS to be officer right? :S
it beats being a combatant out there but since TS is a NSman driver....reservist should be quite relaxed...somemore if he being converted to DO...his liability will be increased to 50 yrs old...Originally posted by LazerLordz:MOCC - Medical Officers' Conversion Course. It's a short course during your reservist training, maybe 2-3 weeks.. hopefully some NSMan MOs here can verify this.
It's quite a possible scenario..
But he's a transport supvr..they usually push them up to be CQ/CSM/RQ.. so there's still a lot of ICTs for him.Originally posted by kengkia:it beats being a combatant out there but since TS is a NSman driver....reservist should be quite relaxed...somemore if he being converted to DO...his liability will be increased to 50 yrs old...
i wish i got that vocation...also dun nid chiong sua i happy... ..me so envious of TS...Originally posted by LazerLordz:But he's a transport supvr..they usually push them up to be CQ/CSM/RQ.. so there's still a lot of ICTs for him.
Being a DO is not that bad, at least he can keep his skill current and help others when he's on ICT.
i'm also a TPT SUPVROriginally posted by Ashearo:Hi i am a transport supervisor (will be posted to unit next week). 1) I am going to NUS for undergrad studies after this. Will i get called back for reservist?Depends on which outfit you're posted to. If it's a combat one (i.e. becomes ops-ready after NS), then you'll almost certainly obliged to do reservist during your semester vacations. Either with this unit or, if not, probably with the next-ORDing one. My old experience in Arty was such that every other batch is designated an "IHL" unit (Institute of Higher Learning), meaning a number of its commanders & men are full-time varsity students & as such the CO must plan his first few ICTs around their off-term breaks. The troops will do the IPPT during these ICTs, but can tio RTs & mob-manning/recall-IC duties all year around.
2) Also, after i graduate from NUS Faculty of Dentistry, i have a 4-year bond with the Ministry of Health that i have to serve. Will SAF call me back for reservist if I have to serve a government bond?....I agree with the others that you'll likely be converted. It's a highly-trained profession you're studying for, & the SAF will likely take advantage of this. (Yes, bonders must liable for reservist.)
3) After i finish serving my bond, i plan to move overseas and work overseas. Will the SAF call me back for reservist? And if SAF does call me back, and i cannot come back due to work, what happens?Once your exit permit application is approved, you'll be basically disrupted from reservist & repost-able back to the holding list (more so the longer you're away). But bear in mind that your NS liability won't end until you turn 40 or 50 -- not sure the age limit for dental officers -- & you may be called up again upon your return (even if at an age when your peers have already finished their cycle & have stood down).
I think you should worry about the deferment part when you are closer to ORD. It's no use worrying about it now.Originally posted by Ashearo:I will get posted to my unit on Friday and i will stay there until i ORD. But after ORD, i will get posted to yet another unit again for future reservist? Will i get to keep my vocation as a transport supervisor? or will i have to do something else? (assuming im not converted into a dentist during reservist)
Also, as far as i know, the faculty of dentistry at NUS has different vacation terms compared to the rest of the university. Most faculties have their 3-month long summer vacations, but dentistry faculty has 3 1-month long vacations which are packed full with projects and etc. Is it possible to get a deferment then?

Will you be ORDing together at the same time? If so on both, then it's likely everyone will stay together for reservist. If not, then anything can happen. Yes, you'll retain your vocation if you don't convert.

When you're nearing ORD, you'll do a FFI, for starter's -- so let's that it from there.
