Its not ironical ....... if people don't enter SAF, where to find people who wants to leave ?Originally posted by borntolive:PPL here are waiting for the day where they can leave SAF n ppl here are aiming to enter SAF how ironical.
the farmer officer scheme starts from the day he is commissioned as an officer even after signed the contract. if he signed liao, enter ocs but kena downgrade medically/ not commissioned (ocs course is 9 months), the contract is therefore void and made null. double check on this.Originally posted by TXian:I asked him to think properly and have a plan B in case this army thing is not working out for him. Also like some of you mentioned, recruit life is the very beginning and there are so much more for him to see and learn.
BTW, the 6 year contract starts from after he ORDs rite? Are there any non-scholarship contracts with different terms (the contract length)? I saw on SAF webby scholarship bonds are 3, 4 years that kind. I don't think he qualifies for their scholarship. So besides 6 years got any other options?
official : www.army.gov.sgOriginally posted by TXian:is there a website with all the info or anyone he can speak to? The SAF webby only highlight all the 'perks' and nvr mention about all the other T&Cs.
Will the recruitment centre be able to provide full details so that he can consider before joining? They should make all these information more widely available. No use getting scores of men who join and regret soon after. Waste of tax money because none will be long term.
So does the farmer officer scheme signees start getting his regular pay as a cadet ?Originally posted by eac:the farmer officer scheme starts from the day he is commissioned as an officer even after signed the contract. if he signed liao, enter ocs but kena downgrade medically/ not commissioned (ocs course is 9 months), the contract is therefore void and made null. double check on this.
as mentioned there is a 3 year contract. contract is official only after commissioned. e.g. enlist date = 22/11/2007, commission date = 22/11/2008, thus contract ends on 22/11/11, cos 2008 +3 = 2011.
for the regular ns liability he halfway quit, it is known as MTE [minimum term of engagement]
its okay, the scheme is only available when he get into ocs based on his own merits.Originally posted by TXian:Hi everyone, thanks to all on my bf's behalf. Thanks for sharing. He's still into signing on. But I read about the 3 year contract thing, so I told him he could try for that. Then there's also the LSA (scholarship) with a 4 year bond, I think.
But most importantly, best if he can go into OCS then see how are things first before signing on. Maybe go in liao can see true colours then he'll voice like those anti-sign ons.
Any more info feel free to add on..I think others who thought about signing on might find these useful too.
But most importantly, best if he can go into OCS then see how are things first before signing onSomeone else vaguely touched on this earlier, but to remind: there may be institutional obstacles if you sign on & then try to change vocations midstream. OCS comprises 3 terms (Tri-Service, Service & Pro) while SISPEC has 2 (BSLC, then either ASLC or the support-arms Schools). The system may not let newbie regulars revocate that easily if they're already in the OCS Pro Term or in trade course during SISPEC. Not saying it's impossible, but it'll be dealt with more on a case-by-case basis with various possible impediments n the way (suitability, availability, career potential, sabo kings).
SAF is worse, coz you cant quit just like that if you suai suai kena condamn.Originally posted by TXian:yeah, i heard also that SAF is not that simple one. Besides the point that they can promise you oceans and mountains, and then might not deliver, there are also alot of internal politics and all that. Not much difference between a public sector company except it might be more "regulated" on the surface.
If you officer, people arrow you, you still can shoot arrow down. If you SGT, people shoot arrow at you. You got to think carefully whether to shoot arrow to NSFs because they can screw you up badly.Originally posted by TXian:He failed his IPPT, still got hope to go OCS? Can attain silver but only because of Standing broad jump cannot pass *shakes head*
haiya, why wan to go OCS ar??
passion for your job is not the only consideration. although i agree signing on for money/overseas education could be a possibly wrong motive for signing on.. but like any job, one must consider the economic benefits of that jobOriginally posted by LazerLordz:So where are the ones who signed on because they love the military?
After officer delegates his job to the SGT, he's FREE and he went to officers mess for happy hour everyday... happy lifeOriginally posted by KoolKool:If you officer, people arrow you, you still can shoot arrow down. Okay... this totally cracked me upOriginally posted by LazerLordz:If he can make COL, I'm sure he can push for Advanced Management courses at Harvard.
I'm sure he could transition into ST or some defence-related GLC without a hitch.
